Here in Germany most of my friends would not even know who's on top of the charts in Germany...

I doubt that even in the UK it would give a boost. Of course it helps to be on #1 of itunes because people will be kind of curious to check the song out if they dont already did.

I don't mean on iTunes, I mean in general. Undoubtedly, it helps to have a UK #1, especially given how a lot of Europe is very much influenced by the UK. Germany is an exception, of course, but one cannot deny the impact British charts have on other countries in Europe.
