Are you serious? Her career weighs heavily on her personality and image.

If you showed somebody on the street the angled bob Rihanna had during the Good Girl Gone Bad era, I bet that they'd relate it to her. If you played a clip of Rihanna's voice, I bet that they'd relate it to her. The same goes for anything Rihanna popularized. Rihanna is known for her loudmouthed, in-your-face, but still humble personality.

And Rihanna isn't a staple, she was the it girl during the GGGB era but as soon as Gaga and Katy blew up it didn't take long for Rihanna to take a back seat to them, esp. Gaga -- now if she were able to compete with her peers then it wouldn't be a problem. Which the article also alludes to.

The thing with Rihanna is she's never owned an era that had everyone dying to hear what she was gonna do next. It's like... the whole entire world already knows her future album release schedule.

Is it in magazine sales? She has those.
Is it in album sales? She has those.
Is it in social media? She has that.
Is it in fashion? She has notability there as noted by Anna Wintour.
Is it in tv appearances? She has that.
Is it in tours? She may not be #1 lol, but she's making a name for herself.
Is it in critical reviews? She has those.
Is it in awards? She has those.
Is it in tabloids / internet hits? She has plenty of that.
Is it in hits? She has those.
Is it in youtube views? She has those.

What exactly makes her a faceless popstar by fact?

It's an interesting read, but they've sold Rihanna way short. She may be devoid of a unique pop persona (though she seems to be trying the "rock star" thing again now), but that's part of what makes her so ferociously pliable to any material that gets thrown her way. Rihanna has this interesting timbre and delivery that can somehow sell pretty much any genre or song. There's a reason she's become the ultimate hook girl of the last five years, in addition to having dozens of hits of her own.

You have to take the case of Rihanna on its own, to try to figure out why she doesn't have a $100m+ grossing tour yet.

First, all of her tours are too short, they end after half-to-one-year. While Lady GaGa had 200+ shows on the span of two years.

Both Beyonce and Britney had much more time than Rihanna to have that $100m+ tour.

'Loud' could have been her first $100m tour if they didn't release TTT that early.

Britney made $131.8 million in 8 months with The Circus. Rihanna's last two tours lasted 11-16 months.
