It can't always be 100% accurate because people are constantly making purchases every minute, but it gives a close idea as to how much has been sold within the 24 hour period.
This is what it says on site's main page:

I've tried to make the figures as accurate as possible, but with this automated service I can't absolutely guarantee anything.
