You're asking this question in a pop forum when we all very well know that in the pop world that, one artist does dance-pop and is successful and gets massive attention, more will follow in that artist's steps. I only started lurking this year and only joined in the summer, but it's just the nature of human beings to follow in the steps of those who came before that have had success in what they do (a la following the trend).
Since the dawn of the pop diva there have been stans. These are generally Teenage Gays who find an escape in the divas music so spend there time promoting and discuusing her so it's to be expected. I don't know why everyone talks like ghetto hookers. Maybe they want to copy Rihanna on twitter. If you went to a rock music fan site or rap music fansite it would be mostly straight guys. It's just pop appeals to gays more.

Where there is pop, there are gays. Always been this way, it isn't some "new" thing. Maybe the massive upsurge of Gaga fanatics is what made it more obvious - they tend to be overly obnoxious & in your face about their sexuality - & then you also have the Rihanna horny-sexually-repressed-and-eager-for-****-navy.

tbh ATRL has become less about music and more about reading other stan bases for filth. and gay people do that best! so to keep up everyone had to get hip to the game!

Gifs have become extremely popular on ALL forums, gay or not, music-related or not, in the last couple of years. That's not an ATRL thing.
About the slang, I would guess it's because Beyonce stans are really aggressive/outspoken and they sort of force their personalities on others, which makes the "ghetto" slang popular.
The slang is relatively new though.
