This list isn't really only about "cultural impact":
Quote:
Our critics pick the most extraordinary English-language pop recordings since the beginning of TIME magazine in 1923. Here are 100 (unranked) songs of enduring beauty, power and inventiveness
1. Baby One More Time is known more for it's video than the actual song. The song, as Steven loves to say, is basically locally popular here in America.
2. Hey Ya! and Get Ur Freak On are staples in the 00's music books. One single handedly pushed an album to 7 million worldwide and the other is possibly her greatest and most known hit. And yes, BadBitch, both of them placed on RS's list. Umbrella is great, but no where near the greatest.
3. That list is solid from all corners. But since this is ATRL, only a select few may comprehend that.
4. Like A Prayer and Vogue etc. may be Madge's biggest hits but Boarderline is what started it all. Well, technically speaking.
But the song is greater than many #1 out there put together
quality=/=impact
But what is quality to you? Whatever it may be will never be 100% agreed with the next person. It's called an "opinion" and preference when evaluating things. What guidelines are set to reaffirm a song being horrid, bad, okay, good, or great?
How many records did those songs break? How many people are STILL covering it? Did any of them tie Whitney Houston "I Will Always Love You" record? Be called the "Official Raining Anthem" in the UK? Exactly! Umbrella will remain bigger ans more iconic than BOTH of those songs put together. Fail.
Bad Romance didn't make Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs list List so what are you trying to say? and VH1?
That's exactly the point I was trying to convey, these are list hun. Its not too big of a deal, take them as they are. Peoples opinions. Just don't try to discredit other songs to try and prove your opinion superior.
Why are people mad and comparing cultural impact when the list clearly says "Greatest" Pop Songs of all time?

songs of enduring beauty, power and inventiveness
I might be off the mark but when I see this word I imagine it being accompanied by iconic, long-lasting songs that stood the test of time, not a song from last year.
Also missing: TLC, Janet, Tina Turner, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Ace of Base, ABBA, Janis Joplin, Patti Smith(!!!!!!), Born in The USA , Landslide, Shania Twain, Dixie Chicks, Coldplay, Smashing Pumpkins, Alicia Keys, Bjork, Ben Harper, Cher, Cranberries, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Erikah badu, Green Day, Iggy Pop, Jeff Buckley, Lou reed, Neil young, Perl Jam, PJ Harvey, Roxette, Suzanne Vega, Tracy Chapman, U2, etc.
Yet they put Janelle Monae and songs from 70 years ago.
Fail.
The song was huge huge HUGE, but it's just a cover of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You, and covers shouldn't really make lists like this. It's a personal song Parton wrote about her breakup, so Houston doesn't deserve to make "greatest" lists off of it.
