This was my bottom 10. How was I so not in line with everyone else?
I wasn't expecting to like it especially since you kept hyping it up, but then I pressed play and was mesmerized.
Pop poppin this thing back. Drop drop drop dropping this thing back. This is for the time, you gave me flowers. For the world, that is ours. For the mulah, for the power of love. I know I won't never ever ever give you up. And, I wanna say thank you in case I don't thank you enough.
Ugh, this song!
I can understand why people hate it; it's not an alltimer for anyone involved. But for the fact that it makes PERFECT sense in the sequence of 4 (Bey has to get through the teenage emotions of tracks 4-7 to get to the pure, adult love of tracks 8-10) and the fact that it's the closest the world will ever get to hearing how En Vogue circa 1996 would have sounded if they had moved to LaFace Records, it's a 9 for me.
You said it all. It amazes me how people don't get the reference and the influence of the song.
I actually find the song quite forward-looking. It's as though they were trying to explore some new ground with the album and then decide to go in a safer, more commercial direction instead.
