They aren't comparable.
a) those were decades ago when piracy wasn't a problem and it is a FACT that albums could easily do past the 5 mil mark.
b) Mariah did not write an album completely on her own
c) those albums have been out for decades, of course they will sell more they have had enough time to do it.

a) T-Sweezy is a country star, country people still buy albums. The list of the best sellers of the 00's were mostly country singers.
b) Typical country is easier to write than 90's classics.
c) I doubt it's that much though

She's releasing the Speak Now Tour as a Live CD + DVD combo in November and will probably release her next album next fall... It was recently reported that she'd played over an hour and a half of new music to her record label head, and she still has about 6 months to keep writing.

It's possible that she's been working with cowriters, I haven't heard anything about that... And I actually prefer Speak Now over Fearless because she didn't have cowriters, but to each their own.

I can respect Taylor's talent as a songwriter, but it frustrates me that her image hasn't really progressed since she was 15 years old. Why is a twentysomething still singing about princesses and fairy tales? This artist that I once regarded as an impressively mature for her age now seems way too stagnantly adolescent to truly capture my interest any more.

a) she has sold way more than most of their faves have since the year 2000
b) she writes her own music and it actually sells
c) she has dated people they want to nail
d) she won a grammy for ATOY which most of their faves haven't and probably never will (bar 2 or 3) for an album she not only wrote and co-wrote every song on but co-produced as well.
e) she actually cares a lot about her fans which other than Gaga and a few other to a milder extent, most celebs only say they care and don't back it up, Taytay doesn't charge for meet and greets all the time because her fans tend to go to her shows with their allowance, she has the T-Party room, a true Princess.
f) she does it all singing about princesses, dancing in the rain and fairytales

The only song on the Speak Now album with "princesses and fairy tales" is Long Live, and it's not an "I'm a princess, marry me" song... It's a song about her love for her band and her fans that uses the "fairy tale" imagery in a metaphorical sense... Other than that, the word "enchanted" is as close to fairy tale as the album comes... so try again

As for the maturity issue, I personally consider her songs and image to be more mature than some other pop stars who are several years older than her singing songs about partying, getting drunk and having sex.
