I obviously really want MTN for the holidays and would rather they get as much out of each single as possible. I just don't really think Y&I will be enough to sustain the album through October (but that may not a huge issue with a re-packaging/push in November).
I can see the benefit of releasing Scheisse next insofar as MTN might sound too similar to TEOG so close together, so I could see it having a "more of the same" effect on people. Scheisse sounds current/fresh and hearkens back to what people have loved from her from the start.
It also could be beneficial as far as AC radio goes. You & I is going to be climbing on there forever, but it's climb has probably been delayed by TEOG still growing on the format. Scheisse won't get any AC airplay (but could reignite interest from Rhythmic), so by the time MTN was released the path on AC could be clearer for it to grow quickly.
With a good radio edit, I also think Top 40 would more immediately receptive to Scheisse than MTN, and they've been touch and go with her this era. MTN is throwback, Scheisse is current.
