I LOVE FLORENCE but I LOVE MORE of 'Dele
P.S. Shake It Out needs to be the breakout hit of Florence, (as to Rolling in the Deep for 'Dele)

Florence slays Adele effortlessly. She is coming so ****ing hard for the Grammys with Shake It Out.

Really? Because I definitely thought she was the weakest out of that whole lot.

By the look of your signature I'm not sure how reliable of a judge of talent you could be.

But I guess if I were to offer a reason why someone would prefer Adele, I would say that I think Adele's sound is a little more accessible/conventional (not an insult) than Florence's, and therefore I think she's perhaps more likely to appeal to certain listeners.

Please, Adele's and Florence's music are not remotely similar. Let's be real here.
The only reason Vin made this thread is to shade someone. He has been doing it a lot on this board.
But I'll play along.
I love both for DIFFERENT REASONS. Florence is holding it down for the rock/alternative crowd. Adele is holding it down for the AC/pop crowd. They both satisfy my musical needs in different ways.
|
THIS. I love both equally for different reasons as well. Honestly, comparing the two makes as much sense as comparing Tori Amos to Mariah Carey. Two vastly different artists with different kinds of music. They're not even in the same genre. I guess the one noticeable thing that Flo and Adele have in common that draw the comparisons are the big, powerful, soulful voices. But still, they're very different in every aspect.
And a round of high fives to everyone on here who showed DiamondDust Florence's vocal capabilities. I can get not liking her voice, but to deny its potency is just...

Although Adele's sound is more conventional or relatable, America, and people in general, long for the unconventional just as much as they long for accessibility. American radio randomly selected to play "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence + The Machine and it performed well. I believe if US stations shared equal air time with both Adele and Florence, both artists would, surprisingly (or unsurprisingly), be relatively close to balancing each other out in terms of success.

But pop radio was not here for Dog Days. I don't think Florence will ever do anything that Top 40 will ever be here for.
And, to answer your song - I think lyrically, melodically and thematically Someone Like You best anything Ms. Welch will ever do. Man, every time I hear it it knocks me out.

Her new album will be way more radio friendly, there's a song produced by Ryan Tedder that could be big in the US.
Cosmic Love, Dog Days Are Over, Blinding, You've Got The Love, Rabbit Heart >>>>>>>>> SLY lyrically, melodically and thematically.

You've Got the Love is a cover.
The original, by Candi Staton and The Source is better.
At least Florence's version is better than that MESS Joss Stone tried to serve.

I know, but i think Florence's version is way better. She added the drama that the song needed.

Adeles voice is more 'emotional'.
Like one of her songs could make you burst into tears if you're having a hard day.
But Florence makes much better music.

be made with musicians to create discussion.

It is strange that you only seem to question artists that leave you unimpressed. Wouldn't more discussions on Kesha's artistry be more interesting?

The whole album is produced by Paul Epworth.
And Florence has said that she's not aiming for radio friendliness with her music. Songs like WTWGM, Strangeness and Charm and Bedroom Hymns are proof of that.

Oh lord! I cannot choose. I love them both to death Florence's music has a more ethereal/folk (I mean, they use a HARP for Heaven's sake) sound to it, while Adele's music is more soul/blues so there's a slight difference to their styles.

Although I do understand your statement, it is also nonsensical. Why would one criticize the artist they enjoy? Would you question Adele? Unlikely, according to your response within this thread. Why? Because you are a fan of Adele. That's natural and understandable. Would I question Adele? Yes, because although I do respect her as an artist, I see her merely as a fad. In today's music climate, you're considered to be a "cool" person with "good taste" who knows "real music" if you like Adele. I see through that... and I question it. ( Disclaimer: This does not imply that people do not genuinely enjoy Adele.)
You criticize or question what you feel needs to be questioned; it depends on the person. It's not about being "shady" or "trolling," it's about discussion and what that individual person feels like having a conversation about. That being said, within this music forum, I welcome a discussion on any topic, including Ke$ha. And if ever an artist I enjoy does something that is questionable to me (because, remember, what is questionable to others, may not be questionable to you, as is the case with this thread) then I will surely open a discussion if I feel it's interesting and warrants a healthy or entertaining debate.

Blah, this is so copied and pasted, Vin. It's like I've read this a ton of times, and it has only been on POP messageboards. I really think some of you girls take a few people on the INTERNET and make a generalization, and it's dumb. Who really cares that much about what people think about their musical taste? Do people really spend money on something just to prove that they are "cool" or have taste? Is fitting in that important? Is this really desperate times? Are people really that programmed? I feel like that's a defense mechanism and cop-out by fans of other artists who are currently getting dragged to the pits and back at their hairs by Adele. And Adele has already released two successful albums with several successful worldwide hits. If that's a fad, then I don't know what some of these other girls are.

No, no, no. I read and understood that part. But I also feel that people like you are drawing these conclusions from responses over the Internet, when I seriously doubt the average person in the real world cares that much about another person's musical taste or if someone cares if they're cool or not. And it's sad for those folks who think you're cool if you're an Adele fan because most cool people wouldn't even use her. Adele is no Arcade Fire. If you're talking about the bandwagoners, they come with the territory. Each artist has them, just like haters. They're paying the light bill. But I don't totally dismiss your point. Time will tell.
