That is not what meant. Working with David Guetta is becoming a common trendy thing to do for a hit. Most of his songs are not special. They are basic much like the songs Nicki recorded with him. There is nothing special or memorable about WDGA and TMO. The chorus was made with little effort. Also, doing one genre doesn't make you basic while doing multiple makes you the opposite. My point stands that Nicki released three basic pop songs this year with little variation between them.

Lil Wayne had a rock-rap album. Does that place him under the rock category? No.
Kanye West went from Graduation to 808s and Heartbreak. Is he a basic popstar? No.
Drake sings often. Does it make him a pop star, does it discredit him as a rapper? No.
|
Those weren't Wayne and Kanye's first, second, nor third album releases. They were established before they experimented. I hardly call Drake's auto-tuned drones singing, but he rarely, if ever, makes pop music or features on pop songs.

Fact of the matter is I'm here for Nicki Minaj of the last few years. Someone I can relate to; quirky, fun, carefree, etc. Old Nicki.. well, she wasn't bad, but I'm not here for the super-ghetto persona, and I'm like that with all artists. I'm on ATRL, clearly I enjoy someone who is more mainstream. This is no discussion. You can all want your old Nicki, but I doubt she's all of a sudden gonna go back to a time where she really had to struggle to get recognized at all. Why would she want that? She wants to be different, wants to stand out. The same with every single artist out there.
|
I'm not crying for an old Nicki. I'm crying for some consistency and stability, but Nicki doesn't seem to be able to do that considering she's already making drastic changes to her image and music in her first album era.

The thing that's helping her is that she is the only female rap artist doing it right now, so some pop support is there. I don't think she will ever be a huge pop artist, regardless of image. Female rappers tend to get a few mainstream hits, but their success is never up there with their male counterparts or pop star peers.
|
She has the pop attention, though, and a lot of pop fans that have attracted to Super Bass and, most of all, to her image. If she were a Gaga clone, wouldn't the image hurt her in that department? Or did she get the timing right by using this fun, light image when Gaga was down the dark path?

Any stan who denies the fact that their fave wants attention is a bit ignorant. Some strive for it through many other outlets but Nicki's happens to be through fashion which happens to be something she has a passion for.

I don't have to convince myself of anything, these are the truths.
A. True. Onika has always had different personalities. Her current image is the expression of those personalities.
B. True. Don't know of any artist who rose to fame by being on everybody's track before releasing a successful solo debut. Don't know any artist who has dressed like Nicki has as over the span of her career.
C. True. Nicki wears what Nicki wants to wear. Just like that quote earlier said.

I've read through this thread and you have yet to prove ANY sensible point.
And let's not sit here and act like Nicki is the only artist that dresses flamboyantly for attention. Some of you have a LOT of nerve.

Who Nicki? There was a H.A.M. here and there but it was mostly just a different colored wig with a cute outfit. Now it's mess after mess after mess.

Nicki herself has admitted that.

So I myself personally have no problem admitting everything you said either.

Yes, you can. A gimmick does not equal fakeness in all definitions. A gimmick is usually something used to achieve attention.

Nicki's all of this. She's taking parts of her personality and highlighting them.

Exactly.
And some of the main protesting Nicki's outrageous outfits praise other artists who do the EXACT same thing.

In this sense I feel as though the use of Nicki's gimmicks equate to fakeness.

They aren't. Nicki just takes parts of her personality and highlights and exaggerates them for attention. Something your fave does as well.

Perhaps. I'm not sure. But like I said, it helps that she is the only female rap artist out now. Image wise, she may be "GaGa"ish, but musically, she's different enough not to be confused with someone like GaGa. Do you honestly think radio stations care how a person looks? If the song is catchy, they'd play it. If they play it and enough people like it, they'd buy it. Nicki was a non-factor on pop radio until "Super Bass" smashed. It all comes down to the music. If anything, her being seen as the "Hip Hop version of GaGa" could be helping her more.

Well it doesn't. Not when Nicki has always had different personalities. Not when Nicki has always changed her style periodically throughout her career to highlight these different personalities.

I'm so sick of the who's fake, who's real, who's genuine, who's not genuine nonsense.
Sis, we don't know any of our favs personally. Many of us merely choose to believe what we want about our favorite artists and take what is given to us personally.
You're wasting you time trying to find out what real and what's not.
