Stosure beat Zvonareva 6-3 6-3.
Serena's in control of her match against Pavlyuchenkova.

Stosur played a good match. I can see the finals already, Serena Williams vs Samantha Stosur. Actually, that match could potentially go either way, but I would still put money on Serena

Tipsarevic is playing a great match against Djokovic so far.
I hope Federer can win this Grand Slam, I really really do. I think he won't have another chance like that on the upcoming years basically because Djokovic has been unstoppable this year and it seems like his winning streak will keep up next year. Anyway, as long as Rafa doesn't win I'm okay with it.
As for the women's singles, Serena FTW!

Djokovic just won the third set 6-0. He's in control now.
Federer has lost his last two matches against Tsonga, so he could be in for another upset tonight.
Wozniacki didn't play a great second set against Petkovic. She's really going to have to step up her game against Serena. Stosur should beat Kerber easily. She's not a great player. Zvonareva has a terrible record against Stosur for some reason.

This...if Wozniacki can beat Serena, and when I say beat Serena, I don't mean Serena beating herself, then I can respect her.
Her game is so despicable. She never tries for anything at all, and she's not a champion in my eyes until she can at least go for her shots. Jelena Jankovic is more of a champion, although she hasn't won a slam either. If she can seriously beat Serena, then she has major skills.

Not anymore with that toe injury . But I'm rooting for him to pull through anyway
If Federer plays the way he did his last match, I see him pulling through in 4 sets
Ugh, I despise Wozniacki, I'm glad Serena is going to stop her though, because she's too far ahead right now. And Stosur will EASILY destroy Kerber, Pennetta just played a bad match.
Serena vs Stosur for the finals

Wozniacki often wins by making others play bad. She makes you go for too much because she gets so many balls back. If Serena is at her absolute best then she doesn't stand a chance, but her form has been slipping since the start of the tournament. More errors are creeping into her game.
JJ is the worst world #1 of all time, I'm sorry. At one stage in her career she was on a ten match losing streak. Caroline may not have won a slam, but she wins many titles outside of the big events. At 21 she's already won more titles than JJ. When Jankovic changed her game to become more aggressive that's when she started slipping down the rankings. She should have stayed doing what she was good at. Her game is a total mess now, she doesn't know what to do on court. She used to be so solid but she's lost that consistency. I still think she can win a slam, I'm not her biggest fan but I'd like to see her do it.

Caroline is like that, but she expects to win Slams like that. Playing defensive tennis will NOT win you slams, unless you're a Chris Evert (but that was back when the game wasn't power based anyway). I respect that she can let others self implode, but the way she handles herself on court is a mess. She continually fist pumps and screams "come on" when she NEVER gets winners (well not many) and she says that on mistakes made by opponents too. That's rude as hell to do. True Serena has slipped, but that was because the quality of her players improved. It's no contest tomorrow against Wozniacki for Serena if she's on form, which she most likely will be, but the longer the match goes, the more it favors Wozniacki because of her great stamina and fitness. Serena hasn't played nearly all year, so we can't accurately gauge her fitness
JJ isn't better than Wozniacki in any way, but I just respect her more because she knows when to step it up, and when to fist pump. At least she gets winners. True, Caroline has won a lot of titles, but that's because most of her title wins come from events that rarely have high level players. And the events that do have those players, she loses in (eg. The Grand Slams, Cincinatti, Toronto, and Stanford).
I do want Wozniacki to win a slam, but not until she fixes her game

Anna started declining after those gangsters attacked her at her home, tied her and her family up and robbed them. She was never the same after that. And since then it's just been one injury after another. I too hope that she will one day be back to her old self, cause she was amazing to watch.

which Anna? Ana Ivanovic?
i never heard of that attack

Anna Chakvetadze, former world #5.
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2007/1...15822120071218
Quote:
"Five to six unknown people wearing masks climbed over the fence of the country house at about 4:00 a.m. Moscow time (1:00 a.m. British time), then broke into the house and tied her parents up," a police spokesman was quoted as saying by the Russian media.
"They took money and valuables worth some five million roubles (over 99,300 pounds)."
Her father Jamal appeared on Russian television, showing scabbed-over bruises on his scalp, cheek and forehead.
"They started to beat me up, I resisted, then they hit me either with their hands or a pistol. It was dark, told me I had a child there, reminded me about it, so that I gave them everything. So I did," Jamal Chakvetadze told Russian television.
Russian tennis chief Shamil Tarpishchev later said that 20-year-old Chakvetadze was not hurt in the incident.
"The most important thing was that no one was hurt. I was told Anna didn't even try to resist the robbers," Tarpishchev said.
Police later said they were looking for suspects but gave no details.
World number six Chakvetadze has won four singles titles this year, earning more than $1.4 million in prize money.

So Federer slayed his quarterfinal match against Tsonga. Is he finally looking like a serious contender to upset Djokovic or even win the championship again?

Caroline has come really close before and she's still in with a shot here so she could win a Slam with her game. Schiavona and Li winning slams gave hope to everyone else because they were never expected to win one, and it proved that nearly everyone in the top 20 has the potential to win one. There's very little to separate the players that are near the top in today's game. I don't think Caroline will win multiple slams unless she can improve and add some more variety to her game, but she can definitely win one. If she beats Serena, she should win the whole thing. That's a big ask though,
I agree her shouting "come on" when others make an error is very rude, but the term in general is. Hewitt was the first to start doing it. You're literally telling the other player to "come on", it's antagonising.
Caroline won IW back in March, that had an impressive line up.

He's playing really well but I don't want him to win. I'd like to see a Djokovic Murray final. Their rivalry is really starting to develop. I know Murray isn't really popular, but he definitely deserves to win a GS. He's been very consistent throughout his career.

Oh Caroline definitely has a shot to win. Although Serena has two against her, I don't count those as impressive. Both were in 2009, where Caroline was finally finished developing her game to get to her peak, this year. Also, she retired in one match, and Serena needed a third set tiebreak to finish off Caroline in the other match they played, so Caroline has a chance. She really can almost be considered the favorite, given Serena has been out for a while. I don't know if I would call her the absolute favorite, but you can't knock down her chances. If she were to pull through, she should win it all. Women's tennis needs a dominate top 10, something it hasn't had since the early arrival of the Williams' sisters.
And I do want to see Djokovic make it to the finals, but against Nadal. I love Murray, but I want Nadal to break the recently set Grand Slam record for men, at 16. I know he might not get that much now that Djokovic is destroying the competition, but it's possible.
It's quite sad that Federer is 1 week shy of matching Sampras' all time weeks at number 1. I think it's 261 weeks, and Fed has 260

I was kind of disappointed that they delayed the SF until tomorrow, but now the line up is amazing. All semi's in one day. Based on form coming into this tournament I think Serena is the favourite. She's played a lot of matches now so I don't think that's going to be an issue. What really matters is how they play on the day. Kim won two years ago after being out for so long, and her preparation for the tournament wasn't great. If Wozniacki wins it will be close, but Serena could destroy her. I hope it's a good match regardless of who wins.
Do you not like Federer? I don't tbh. I hate when people call him the greatest player of all time. He's had an amazing career, but there's no way he would have won so many slams had Djokovic, Murray and Nadal been as good as they are now when he was at his best. The players from Federer's generation all burnt out really quickly. Safin, Hewitt, Ferrero, Roddick, Nalbandian etc. didn't have great careers overall. Federer dominated in an era of mediocre players IMO.
I'm surprised you like Murray. He gets so much hate. I'm not his biggest fan, but I want to see him get a GS. It could change everything for him. I can see him winning a good few GS titles, or none at all. The first is going to be the hardest for him.

I think we've all known since this tournament began that it was Serena's. Whenever she comes back from a major career setback feeling like she has something to prove, there's no stopping her. Say what you will about her work ethic, but she certainly has a champion's mentality. When she wants to win, she will—and there's nowhere she thrives like at the majors.

I know, she's always had an amazing ability to start producing her best when it matters most and with seemingly little preparation. She was the favourite to win Wimbledon even after being out for so long. I'm glad she didn't though. It wouldn't have said much for the state of Women's tennis if a player could return without playing for a year to defend her title at the World's most pretentious tennis event. The press criticisms would have been endless. I kind of don't want Serena to win because I think she'll lose some of her hunger if she does. I'd rather her lose tomorrow so that she'll continue to commit to the game. I hope she plays Tokyo and Beijing.

Unfortunately the women's game lacks healthy, consistent players. If the women were all healthy like they should be, the rankings should be as follows:
01. Serena Williams
02. Kim Clijsters
03. Caroline Wozniacki
04. Maria Sharapova
05. Venus Williams

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have played an amazing first set. Federer won the first set after an intense tiebreak! (9)-(7) and after almost an hour. Go Federer!
