Completely agree on her having much potential, but i doubt she can become a legend. And dealing with expectations seperates the one slane wonders + slamless number ones from actual legends. Look at Sharapova and Serena, they both dealt with it fine and became legends in their own right. With that being said, I want to really see how these new champions, namely Li Na and Kvitova, can handle the pressure of defending their titles. It will be interesting
Moving on, its clear Serena is going to win the US Open this year, with her biggest threat being Wozniacki or Zvonareva. I dislike Wozniacki so my opinion on her chances are biased but Zvonareva is truly the biggest threat to Serena. And Serena has been playing so well she is near unstoppable
Sharapova didn't deal with it. She had a lacklustre run at the US open and the lead up tournaments after winning Wimbledon. So many of the Eastern European players have had meltdowns in their careers. Kuzntesova has had so many bad patches, as has Jankovic and Ivanovic. Zvonareva is playing really well now, but her career has had many ups and downs. She dropped out of the top 50 at one stage mid way through her career. I think Kvitova will deal with it, and I think she's going to win at least 5 slams, possibly more. Nobody from her generation is stepping up to the plate and that's something she can capitalise on. Serena is a legend, but she's 30 soon and she doesn't have much time left. I think that's part of the reason she's so motivated atm. Li won't win another slam. I never saw her win at RG coming because she's not even a good clay court player. The women's game has been a mess the past few years. I still can't believe Schiavone won a grand slam.
how can you be happy about that? yet another brainless power hitter beat an intelligent, fun all-court player. Its women like Schiavone that make women's tennis watchable. US Open lost interest for me now.

True, but in 2004 didn't she win the year end championship? I know she did on her debut, and since she won a slam in 2004 I am guessing she qualified for it, and if she did, she won. That shows some type of nerve she had, to keep that pressure and to win a big tournament like that, on her debut. That's true about Kuznetsova, Jankovic, and Ivanovic. But Jankovic hasn't won a slam, so I don't count her. And Zvonareva hasn't won one either, but she is certainly on her way, making two good finals last year and is on track for at least the Quarters again. And I believe Serena has a good 3-5 more good years before she hangs up her raquet, and could acquire 1-3 more slams. Li definitely has the potential to win another slam, more so than Kvitova. But then again, I dislike Kvitova and stan for Li, so my opinion doesn't matter. Nobody expected her to win Roland Garros, not even Li herself. But the way she dispatched Kvitova in the Round of 16, Azarenka in the Quarters, Sharapova in the Semis, and the defending champ Schiavone in the finals, you can't deny her talent.
And I'm happy for Pavlyuchenkova, I wanted her to win so badly

I love Schiavone, her presence, and her play. But you can't really say Anastasia is brainless. No one can beat Schiavone while being brainless, she plays with such a crafty style, you have to think to win

Schiavone always wins ugly, I think her talent is overrated tbh. She's no Justine Henin, she has no grace on the court.

Yes, she won it in 04. I'm pretty sure she came back from 4-0 down in the final set against Serena to win it 6-4. She then got to the semi's of the Aussie open but lost to Serena after having match points. It's strange to look back at that now because Serena trashes Sharapova when they play, Maria only gets a handful of games now.
Li was a late bloomer. She's 29 and did nothing for the majority of her career. I think she could win another slam, but it's not likely. She hasn't won many titles in general. Kvitova is only 21, she has so much time to win more Grand Slams. I was really happy that Li won RG, and I was rooting for her because I hate Schiavone but I think timing was a big factor. Clijsters would have won if she was fully fit. I agree about Serena, but I think if she wants to win them then she has to be committed. In the past she was able to turn up and play herself into tournaments, Wimbledon showed she can't do that anymore.
By the look of things, Caroline Wozniacki will be the women's new champion for a long time. I dislike her so much, dislike her playing style (ironically my style of play is exactly the same ) and I just feel like she is so undeserving of that number 1 ranking. I can't

Women's tennis needs a new saviour.
Justine could never:
But yeah Justine was amazing, but you can't say that Justine was graceful on the court. She was known to be a bitch on and off the court. The hand-gesture she did against Serena at the French Open or how she retired at the Aussie Open final against Mauresmo. She wasn't graceful at all.
And I remember a Schiavone-Henin match several years ago, either in Dubai or Doha and Schiavone won 7-6 7-6. It was the most beautiful women's match I've watched bar couple of Mauresmo's matches.

It's not the first time it's happened though. Clijsters and Mauresmo were #1 before they won their first slams. Hingis and Davenport both spend many weeks at #1 without having a slam title at that time. When Sharapova first became world #1 she had just failed to defend her Wimbledon title.
The worst #1 of all time was Jankovic. I never liked her. Safina would have won a slam had her back not forced her into early retirement. She was really talented, very aggressive but in a controlled manner. I hope she can return to health so we see her on the court again.

crafty style? hitting your forehand and backhand as hard as you can is called crafty now? can she hit a slice? can she go out to the net? Schiavone can do all this and does it wonderfully. She's a true tennis talent...she feels the ball.
Ugh how much I detest these power hitters. They have no variety. Sharapova is just like that too. They are no fun.

I know she had her moments, but the retirement in the Aussie Open final was for a legitimate reason IMO. She destroyed Amelie the next time they played at Berlin, and she lost the Wimbledon final. Amelie didn't win it. Henin was very rude but only because she was such a fearsome competitor, she never formed any friendships on the tour but I think herself and Clijsters developed a relationship of sorts later on in her career.
The Women's game needs a CHAMPION. All of the current players are losers. They're good one week and then they play terribly the next. Serena may be a legend, but I don't think she's been good for the tour over the past few years. She barely ever plays, even when she's not injured.

I didn't know that about Sharapova . I thought her first time was when Henin retired right before Roland Garros.
Realy? I love Jankovic, although she is one of the worst. Safina to me was the absolute worst, and a big choke artist. She handed the slam to Ivanovic in 2008 and to Serena in 2009. Handed the gold medal to Dementieva in 2008 as well. Actually I prefer Elena to Safina any day, and was the best woman to not have won a slam

What do you think of Kvitova? he's obviously a big hitter but I think she has more skill than the others. ViKa has a lot of variety in her game too. I can see her winning a few slams. Hopefully Caroline will too. I like Caroline simply because her playing style is different to the others, she's the Martina Hingis of her generation.

I was talking about Schiavone when I said crafty style

Agnieszka is more of Martina than Caroline. Caroline is more...of Justine Henin, just without the power

Elena. I stanned for her. She had her chance at Wimbledon two years ago, she had a match point against Serena in the SF but she played the wrong shot.
Dinara did choke in a few matches, but I wouldn't say she did against Ana. Ana was the favourite. Dinara should have beaten Kuznetsova in the final of Roland Garros two years ago. She never showed up to the final. I could tell she was going to be a mess because I remember she kept swearing on court in her previous match against Cibulkova.

You consider Henin a champion? To me she is a cheater and made tennis look bad. Serena and Sharapova are much more of a champion than she is. They have the mentality, and Serena has the game.

I actually don't mind Kvitova that much. She can be categorized as a power-hitter, but she's a leftie and lefties have a very enjoyable style (Schnyder was my all-time favorite along with Mauresmo). And I've actually seen Kvitova play at the net several time and she did it quite skillfully, so she got some pluses in my book.
Azarenka? no ma'am. A typical brainless power-hitter.
