I actually do love the video a lot, its one of the best in her collection visually and I can really see that her and Beyonce have both had extreme inspiration on each other. Bey dresses differently, and Gaga has become way sexier in her dancing and some of her other choices. The dancing does remind me a lot of the RTW dance scenes (did Francis Lawrence direct this?) Anyway, the mermaid was gorgeous, she looks her best ever in the gray wig, she needs to keep it and of course I stan for the blue wig.

I saw this interpretation on another forum, and it seems to be one of the more plausible ones I've read so far.

My take (told in a linear fashion):

- Hot Guy somehow meets MerGaga and they fall in love, so he takes her home. Where the hell he met a mermaid when he clearly lives in the middle of Nebraska farm country or how he got her back to his barn is beyond me.

- He plops her down in a metal tub and teaches her how to breathe air and they splash, make out and hump and everyone is happy. Then one or both of them decides that she needs to become human so they can get married (all the gauzy shots of them getting married is MerGaga's dream/goal).

- They don't have to call a sea witch because Hot Guy apparently moonlights as a mad scientist. He transforms her into a human through a very painful process, and by the end, Gaga has turned from a happy blonde MerGaga to a miserable brunette human Gaga - unhappy, in pain and crippled.

- Hot Guy leaves her because she's such a buzz kill now or they get separated or something. Bottom line is hot guy is gone. So she goes out wandering the human world, either because she's got nothing better to do or she's looking for Hot Guy. Or maybe she's trying to figure out where the damn ocean is so she can throw herself into it and turn into sea foam. Her bloodied feet/legs show how every step is painful (like in the original fairytale).

- Ice cream truck guy is just a regular guy who is trying to be nice to her (giving her a doll and some ice cream), but Gaga is all alone in the human world, so she's terrified and she just seems a horrifying monster instead of someone trying to be nice to her.

Towards the end they show them back when she was MerGaga, cuddling together in the tub all happy. Lesson here - she shouldn't have changed herself for him and/or he shouldn't have asked her to change. Or something.

Where I'd differ a bit is I think the opening scene of her walking is her returning to the guy after she learned how to love herself (the cornfield scenes). I think the non-linear presentation is what's making it harder to get a clear read on how it all goes together.

There's lots of different things in this video.
It's very confusing as to switch part goes where, on either fantasy or reaity - due to her looking different every scene.

The video's also cut all over the place, which doesn't help

I kinda feel like this is actually true for a lot of her videos, I wish she'd just stick with plotlines like Paparazzi, Bad Romance, and Judas that are actually somewhat easy to make sense of. And although I don't fully understand the video (and i don't think anyone truly does), I think it's ****ing amazing and one of her best totally non-sensical video to date
