Well see I'm not so sure about that. It certainly didn't stop him from taking a hit as a result of the debt ceiling charade. Any level-headed Republican candidate with solid credentials and good charisma would present a considerable challenge to Obama, but any of those appear to be lacking at the moment. I believe that if/when Obama wins the election, it will be mostly due to the absence of a viable Republican candidate. His term as president has not been impressive.
