Will a male pop star ever be interesting again?
They all make the typical music and have the typical image, which is why they all suffer the same fate. Will we ever again have a male pop star that becomes a household name like Usher, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, etc. As usual, the industry is being dominated by the females because they're interesting: Britney, Beyonce, Rihanna, Christina, GaGa.. even Katy, Ke$ha, and Avril. Can men make a comeback? Will their labels allow them to?

Well, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars are household names, I'd say. Are they interesting? Not really.

I'm not sure I'd call Bruno a household name. He doesn't really get enough media attention to be that.

If they are actually pop and don't have RAP in their music, or RnB. Males never take on pop full-on. Except for Simon Curtis, but we know how a lot of people feel about him

Of course. Who knows when, though.

It depends on what your personal definition of interesting is. Bruno is interesting to me, because I love his voice, he can dance, play a billion instruments, and write your own songs. Artists like MJ, Usher, and Justin, I like all of them, but I don't gravitate toward that type of artist.

Maybe not, but he is extremely popular now (for a male). He really set himself apart from the Taio's, DeRulo's and Iyaz's of the pop world.

No one uses Iyaz. My friends still think Sean Kingston sings Replay.

Oh, he's for sure among the top of the heap when it comes to male pop stars right now, but that doesn't say a lot these days... (not to take anything away from his success).

Probably not. Someday however I wanna be in the music industry and be able to change that around, and not be some stupid male singer from my generation. JT is who I wanna channel from, plus GaGa, Rihanna, Miley, Ke$ha, Katy, Ashley, Selena, and Britney.
But for now, no male artist really holds my interest.

Not unless Michael is resurrected.
Bruno has the talent (as a singer, songwriter, and producer) to become the next big male pop star, but he is far from interesting. I liked his pre-fame mixtapes and EP's but his album Doowops and Hooligans is catchy and sugary, but lacks the depth and creativity and boundary pushing that superstars are made of. If he wants to be the next Michael Jackson (and in my opinion he has comparable talent to do so), he needs to branch out and not sing sappy songs about girls just being the way they are (a nice message, but cmon Bruno) and throwing his head on a blade for a girl who doesn't love him...he has a great voice and has a knack from writing nice melodies and hooks, but he needs to mature as an artist to ever be "interesting." The fact that he's been selling singles like hot cakes yet still isn't really a household name is pretty telling.

Bruno Mars doesn't have to strive to be the next Michael Jackson. He's not a dancer/singer. He's a singer/songwriter/guitarist. He needs to expand with his own style. Not everyone needs to be a Michael Jackson clone to be respected. That's part of the reason Justin, Chris and Usher will always be seen as "wannabes" and will probably have a hard time achieving legendary recognition.

Maybe, but then again maybe not. It's the future and as one of my friends likes to say. "That my friends is a mystery."

We don't know what artists will be out next year or 5 years down the road. Only on ATRL would somebody think that males would never have a chance at becoming an icon again.
