No.
I'm not done with this You and I talk.
This is the last time that I'm going to say this and you girls saying we're being too negative can sit down after this.
No one is disputing whether or not You and I is a good song or that it'll chart poorly at the right times.
We're saying releasing You and I right now, in the present moment, and within the time constraints that it could/would be released, it would be a bad time to release it.
We have seen so many performances of her at the piano singing You and I.
Doing that at the VMAS will not be captivating, creative, or innovative like her prior Paparazzi performance.
GaGa is a pop artist and more than anything she is a
shock-value pop artist. GaGa is a master of the craft in the aspect that she knows how to make a buzz.
Singing You and I at the piano isn't going to create any buzz, especially considering how many times she has performed the song.
Therefore, it would be a problem to release the song. She cannot pass up the magnificent promo that is a VMA performance.
Now again, I understand and agree that GaGa needs to diversify her single collection. However, she has just released a song that is unlike the typical GaGa song.
Continuously changing it up makes her look unstable (musically) and considering the negative media press about album sales, people might think that her career, her music, her performances, and her presentation as an artist is unstable too. Thus, after creating that perception, it could lead to even more people moving on from GaGa.
Again, I'm going to state another thing that I said earlier. GaGa's first successes were in the
club. You and I is not the type of song I want to dance to or a song I want to hear when I'm in the club. Her support in clubs are much more impressive and it would be a good idea for her to maintain that "fanbase" since she's giving a non-commercial/experimental pop album. Also, as I said earlier, Judas only peaked at #10 on the HOT 100 but it made it to #1 on Dance/Club songs.
Clearly, that fan-base is the only base that is supporting her with her experimental songs (or in this case blasphemous, supposedly).
Now, the fact that GaGa has just released a successful and stable single is even more important. She needs to continue the momentum. She has released a song that has gotten HAC to embrace it. Now, by releasing another single, perhaps a dance single, she can cement herself as an HAC/AC artist. That'll help her in the short and the long run.
Now, before any of you guys say, "Well You and I could do well on HAC/AC," I'm going to have to tell you guys that I know that. If her dance single did not chart well on HAC/AC but was well-received by pop due to her going back to her roots, dance, and giving more shock-value performances and creating buzz. It will be ok. After that single, it should be in the highest selling industry quarters (3rd + 4th).
Now, she could release You and I as the 5th single. By doing this, she could attempt to woo over the HAC/AC people yet again, and most likely she will. Given the fact that they were to embrace her last single, whatever the dance track may be, it could make her chart run with You and I much more impressive, which is what she would need, considering Pop might not love it as much. Furthermore, they could do a nice holiday discount on the album itself and then, with the "diverse" single, You and I, that should get the non-GaGa fans willing to buy a discounted album, she should be able to snag some extra sells.
So, in conclusion, You and I should not be the next single, in my humble opinion; however, a dance track, perhaps Marry The Night or others, would do her well, considering the time of year, and the potential promo, etc,..
Sorry for the essay. I'm sure many of you won't read it, will disregard it, and or disagree. However, I felt the need to try to explain the thinking that I have about it.
Much love.
