There's a lot of artists whose blockbuster albums didn't really save the follow-up from underperforming, just off the top of my head-
Pink - "Mizunderstood" to the flop "Try This"
The Black Eyed Peas - "The E.N.D." to "The Beginning"
Rihanna - "Good Girl Gone Bad" to "Rated R"
Beyonce - "I Am..." to "4" (this is premature but still, incomparable era's)
I wouldn't say BTW is only selling because it's the follow-up from TFM. It's selling because of the music, public interest, loyal fans, promotion and marketing strategies
The END, The Beginning, GGGB, Rated R, I Am..., 4 are ****ing amazing albums, none of them flopped and the songs are AMAZING

The Beginning and Rated R are considered relative flops. The great news about Born This Way is that it's already outsold Teenage Dream and Loud in the United States. That's pretty impressive considering Teenage Dream produced 4 (perhaps soon to be 5) colossal #1 hits.
Like I said, Born This Way still has 6 more singles and a massive world tour behind it. The trick is going to be taking their time, picking the singles out correctly, producing well-constructed music videos and timely performances. Nothing needs to be rushed. People don't need to panic about TEOG and talk endlessly about the next single. Let her singles run their entire life and die out before easing a new single in.
I'm still waiting for a post from you that makes sense.
Don't bother. Your mental energy and cognitive complexity is upon a similar scale as Britney's vocal range, which means it's not remotely likely for you to catch up with my train of thought. It's also not my fault that you decide to waste all of it on pretending to look like the voice of reason. Even Elisabeth Hasselbeck does it more subtly and effectively than you do.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Everyone ****s up catastrophically once in a while but you don't see everyone turn their life around since after, so there must be something about lessons that is not that certain. I mean look at you.

Why? It's not like all of her singles have to be #1 hits. Now that we've endured her first true flop, maybe it's the time for her to push the boundaries of what's played on radios while she's still on this album which has already proved to be historic.
If she only chooses to release, say, a Marry The Night and then moves on from this album, how is the public going to handle the continued development of her music? If she wants to continue doing what she is doing, she has to take the public on the journey, which includes releasing singles that are risky and might flop. It's not like Madonna or Britney don't have huge catalogs of flop singles.

Yeah, the worst thing they could do at this point is cut the singles off at the knees.
