Sales for albums may be weak in January, but singles? No. There's no time period for singles to be weak. People are always buying songs. January didn't stop "Low", "Tik Tok", "Just Dance", and "Grenade/Firework" from being huge consistent sellers during the same time. "HIAM" blew up and plummeted in sales. Had it been given a little more attention from Jive, including an appropriate release of the video, it would've held up better. So no, sales weren't weak, "Hold It Against Me" performed weakly.
As I noted, it went Platinum in the same rate as many of her other Platinum singles. That shows, like I said, that it was being bought in the beginning, and could've been salvaged with a little help. But it also shows how bad it was doing, in the long run, as you noted, it did 41% of that the first week, while even "Womanizer" did in the same time frame, selling 30% less than that first week.

There's no saving this argument, unfortunately. "HIAM" just SADLY bombed. I note again, it's #716 on iTunes. ****ing "Hips Don't Lie" is Top 200.  It'll go down as another Britney classic that deserve more.
