I mean look at her lifelong friends that she decided to be with shortly after high school. Are we really the people that we were in high school...the answer is no. She obviously developed a little bit more into her self and her personality and found her niche. She gave up her degree of whatever popularity she had and education at NYU and started to hang out with people that she actually liked, not people that would just further her career and the people that were the mean girls of high school. I feel like thats what LA represents to her, just a city that is used to further her career, not a city that she calls home, that she likes or that she wants to be apart of.

The current topic is really interesting. I can't believe she talks about working her way up from the bottom when she went to NYU and was writing songs for other artists before she became famous. She's not naturally ugly either. She makes her self unattractive just to relate to her fans.

That's exactly the interview that I was thinking of, that's bizarre.

And I absolutely do think she means that. Her image is probably the most important thing to her, besides the enormous amount of money she has made. And that's fine. She should be concerned with her image, she's the biggest star on the planet.

She still had to hustle and pay her dues in the industry, though. Being from a moderately wealthy family offers a leg-up but is hardly any guarantee of significant success in your musical career.

Not to say that she hasn't, err, embellished her back story.

She dropped out of NYU and didnt immediately start off writing for other people.

I don't think the vast majority of prospective pop musicians would have been able to finagle the degree of success she has in such a short period of time. A lot of that can be luck of the draw, but obviously she's played no small part in that.
