Mainly the religious references. Radicals already called Gaga the devil, and doing a song where she repeats over and over that she's in love with Judas, so that didn't really help. America is just too involved with religion to overlook the fact that it was a gigantic metaphor, and she doesn't actually love Judas.
I also hear a lot of people talk about the verses being too "jarring." I don't get that, though. The verses are what made me fall in love.
