She wanted to make music that they couldn't do. She didn't insult them at all; she merely used them as an example to make her point.
Beyonce said that she WAS NOT DOING THE SONG THAT EVERYONE ELSE ON POP RADIO SOUNDS LIKE. She basically just said that she's not making music like everything on pop radio by other artists. If she's not making what all other pop stars are making, she's making something different, and in the context, it's being superior, as it's "next-level" as she stated.

Now, humor me this, who exactly is on pop radio? Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, and Rihanna, correct? Rihanna said she doesn't want to sound like them. Beyonce said she doesn't want to sound like pop radio...What is the difference? There isn't any.
Rihanna and Beyonce are saying the EXACT SAME THING but somehow your stan glasses are making it appear as if Rihanna isn't being pompous but Beyonce is. That is ridiculous.
Beyonce didn't come out and say that she had the album of the decade. She stated her honest motivation for the album. And if you listen to it, the main reason so many people on ATRL have a problem with it or call it boring is for that exact reason, she decided not to go the route of everyone else on the top of the charts. Since when does different = superior?
