The fact that we have two female artists get 1million+ sales in their first week within the past 6 months is amazing, such a thing didn't happen with Britney in 2000 and there were plenty of female artists releasing music at the time. Remember, up until the release of Oops, the biggest female debut was "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" by Alanis Morissette with 469,000 units sold.

i agree in fact people keep saying the exact opposite, that it WAS easy to sell that much in 2000. im on ur side BB. im defending britney's record when everyone is telling me that selling 1 million albums was the easiest thing to do back then just because of that time period. I think we are saying the same thing but in a different way.

This is what I have been trying to say about all this 1st week sales discussion. Promotion and marketing nowadays make it easier to approach to music buyers.
Britney was the only exception back then

That was a time when album sales peaked. And I think people forget that Nsync play a role in Britney's success.
Nsync holds the record for the #1 and #2 highest first week sales of all time. Britney was affiliated with them, because of opening for them on tour and all.
Besides, all that is in the past. Live in the present people.

They also need to take into account the landscape had changed when it came to album releases. The mass amount of fans camping outside retail stores for a simple album to be released was becoming huge. Artists with major followings (N'Sync, BSB, Eminem, and Britney) were releasing music at that time and they were creating pandemonium among fans reminiscent of Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and Elvis.
Their star power attracted fans young and old to stalk their every move, purchase every magazine their face covered, buy every merchandise with their name or face on, etc. FANDOM was at it's highest during Bubble Gum Pop era and Britney played a major part in that. She helped set a standard of what Pop music needed and had to be like in order to be successful at that time. Notice...once the Bubble Gum Pop era started to fade when they started to mature, the way people stanned kind of went down. Now we are seeing a resurgence in that fandom with Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga. All of which who have huge fan support.

Circus sold 504K+ in it's opening week setting a Billboard record for most albums to have a debut of 500k+ in its opening week and read my post above for explanation on that!

RIGHT! It truly is how well you market yourself that will determine how well you can do and Taylor and Gaga did MAJOR work in the promo area to get those milli debuts. Britney had to do the same thing back then to get that debut. SHE WAS EVERYWHERE promoting her ass off. She did SNL, made multiple TRL appearances, had her own TRL weekend special that was on Mother's Day, She had a MTV documentary that followed her every move the week of release, billboards of the album everywhere, a TODAY Show concert appearance, many magazine covers, etc. She had to WORK her 18 year old ass off in order to get that 1.3 million like Gaga and TayTay did.
If you put the work in and if you are that big of an artist...you can get that milli.

Child. N'Sync plays no role in Britney's success. Oops!...I Did It Again sold 1.3 million due to people wanting to buy Britney Spears record. She toured with them on her debut album, which sold incredibly well still even without her on their tour thanks to her own promotional tour prior to the release, and the hype of "BOMT". Britney Spears is responsible for her success.
This is the the lowest of the low in the most recent days. Good LORD.

if there is one thing gaga surpasses all other pop acts in it is promo. that girl is EVERYWHERE. if britney did that she could make those sales but at this point im just happy she is still recording and touring. in fact im downright ecstatic!

RIGHT! Britney has sold more record than N'YNC did WW with just two albums alone. Nevermind when Britney dated Justin, he was referred to at times as "Mr. Spears" or Britney's boyfriend, as oppose to the other way around. Britney was bigger WW star than N'SYNC, while they were more popular domestically.
I love N'SYNC but they were extra LOCAL at that time compared to Britney. Britney was NEVER in their shadow.

Britney ended up selling more than Nsync* at the end on a domestic or worldwide level though. Your point is?
And you're acting up like there's no piracy before considering artists like Shania Twain, Mariah Carey, Madonna's faced album sales decrease from their past albums during the time of Britney's peak also.
And us? living in the past? ugh sis. You do know how many many no. 1s and sales brit got this past eras without Britney even lifting her finger? Can you tell me how many artists of her time did that?
