Disappointed this week.
Def Jam need to stock up. On twitter I read a few tweets about there not being any CD's in walmarts or w/e.
In the UK they are always restocking the HMV in my city

And what matters the most, World Chart or US Chart numbers? THANKS! Babygirl has impacts that are coming up with MD and CKB. Hold tight!
Clearly the demand is there on itunes as its going up again at #34. Theres a disconnect with the physical amount of copies on shelves.

Dear God, is it just me or have album sales been abysmal this year? Like absolutely, absurdly horrible...
I just remember much higher sales last year. Am I making that up?

Let's hope "Femme Fatale" can bounce back up next week, since the sales didn't really went down THAT much.

FLAT IS THE NEW UP
Music Sales Rise 1.6% With Track Equivalent Factored In
May 12, 2011
For the first time since the early 2000s, which began an almost decade-long of double-digit year-to-year dips, the U.S. record industry is showing an uptick in music sales, according to the latest Nielsen SoundScan data.
It's a slight one, to be sure, all of 1.6%, and that's tallying all digital tracks sold, with 10 counting as a single full-length.
With NARM in L.A., that's the good news, though not necessarily for physical retailers, as most of the dramatic growth occurred in digital album and track sales, up 16.8% and 9.6%, respectively. Digital retailers received more than half of all music transactions, propelling a 12.4% growth in sales over last year.
The physical CD format continued to drop, this time 8.8%, while overall album sales were down 1.5%, though vinyl was a winner yet again, up 37%. Current titles were down 7%, with catalog up 5.4%, thanks in large part, according to the report, to The Beatles' catalog being available digitally for the first time.
This year's Record Store Day on April 16 was the most successful in its four-year history, with album sales at independent record stores increasing over 39% this year from the prior week (an increase of 180k units) and 12.7% compared to 2010.
Rock remains the most popular genre of music with 32% album share, while pop music represents 40% of all current digital downloads.
Ninety-three of the 100 best-selling vinyl albums last year fell within the Rock or Alternative genres.

ADELE’S THE REAL DEAL
U.K. Pop Diva Will Spend an Eighth Week on Top; The Lonely Island, Christina Perri, Tyler the Creator Bow
May 11, 2011
Can you say “Rolling”?
So far, 2011 has been the year of Adele, as her XL/Columbia album, 21, looks headed for an eighth week atop the HITS Album sales chart, with sales north of 100k, which should send her total soaring over 1.6 million here in the U.S.
Topping the list of chart newcomers next week will be Universal Republic’s The Lonely Island, the music-comedy troupe headed by SNL’s Andy Samberg with partners Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. The band’s sophomore album, Turtleneck & Chain, the follow-up to 2009’s Incredibad, should do between 65-70k, impressive for a comedy album.
Fueled by the massive, 2.2 million selling “Jar of Hearts,” Christina Perri’s Atlantic Records debut, Lovestrong, should do around 45-50k, and maybe more, if there’s a Glee effect from Lea Michele’s performance of the song last night, one of three performances from the episode in iTunes Top 10 this morning.
Odd Future rap provocateur Tyler, the Creator’s XL/Beggars bow, Goblin, the follow-up to his much publicized 2009 Bastard mixtape, is on target for 40-45k.
The reunited Cars’ new Hear Music/Concord album, Move Like This, their first since 1987’s Door to Door, looks to be in the 30-35k range.
Glee’s lovable show choir teacher Mr. Schuester, Matthew Morrison, should see his self-titled Mercury debut sell in the 15-20k neighborhood, as will Columbia’s Raphael Saadiq and Manchester Orchestra.
The market was up 16% vs. last week, up 3% vs. same week last year and still down 2% year to date, which is pretty remarkable since we're coming off at least seven years of double-digit deficits.
Now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work on Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign.
