Anyway, I agree and disagree.
As of now it's easy to say never but you can never truly be sure... Trey Songz is a perfect example. Hardly anyway gave 2 ***** about him until he cut off those wack cornrows, grew some muscle and started singing about sex. Keri just has to find what music works for her.
And maybe I'm biased towards Brandy but I just can't group her in the same category as Kelis, Amerie and Kelly Rowland. Her career (even now past her peak) cannot even be compared with those other artist. The one thing that sets her apart from them is that even now with her decline in popularity, she still remains one of the best selling female artist of all time. If she can do that in the earlier stages of her career only to have it cool down, then there's hope that Keri can have an opposite effect by starting off slow and gradually increasing in popularity like Trey Songz did.

Trey came out with Ready when there wasn't another R&B male on the scene and his team put out the right songs to capitalize on it. Keri has to compete with too many females that can either sing better, perform better or have the "it" factor that she lacks. She is another in a long line of R&B girls who are more like supporting characters and never the star. I'm being nice to put Keri in the same league as Brandy, Kelis and Amerie because their music is totally unique and no one else does what they do. Kelly Rowland is Keri's closest musical match with both of them seeming to be musically unidentifiable. Once Keri truly develops her own musical style and aura then maybe she might be successful. I can't predict the future but I can honestly say from watching the music industry for the past 7 years, she will have some hit singles & maybe win some awards but will relatively remain where she is at.
Brandy fans always use her 90's success when defending her and thats cute but its NOT realistic. I'm not here to talk about things that happened 2 decades ago. The here and now says that Brandy hasn't had any real success in her adult career and can be very well be placed in the same boat as Ashanti, Kelis, Kelly Rowland etc. I love Bran but I'm tired of people's delusions clouding sound judgement whenever she is discussed.
And to BayAreaMami, Keri's videos have been EXTRA lame this era from the "Bills Bills Bills" wannabe Breaking Point video to her tryna be (and failing) Aaliyah/Ciara in One Night Stand. Pretty Girl Rock is the only one that anybody uses

I wish I could find those interludes separately...... I hate the 2 songs that they are attached too.

The only thing uniquely identifiable to Keri is her team of A-list producers. Nobody in the industry is that tight with Polow, Timbo & Danja all in one go. I hope she can find more mainstream success however to be honest I'm happy with the way she is right now; touring, charting, releasing stellar videos and consistently improving her product with amazing performances and interviews.

Pretty girl rock is the 1st official single to be released in the UK - Source
I don't know how this will go, I mean PGR has already been on the UK iTunes for the last few months. Perhaps there will be a double release with Lose control, hopefully things will pan out successfully.

Keri Hilson is at the top of her game for Great Adventure
Keri Hilson isn't just another songbird with a pretty face. The charismatic Hilson, 28, is the total package. She's a gifted vocalist, songwriter and arranger. Some songs she has penned are ubiquitous.
She has written such familiar tunes as ''Take Me As I Am'' for Mary J. Blige, Omarion's ''Ice Box'' and ''Wait A Minute'' for the Pussycat Dolls.
Hilson has a knack for penning songs that radio loves.
The perky Georgia native is trying to take it to another level as a solo artist. Hilson, who will perform Saturday at Six Flags in Jackson, is touring behind her second album, ''No Boys Allowed,'' which dropped in December.
Her latest collection of pop/R&B is stylish, celebratory and for the most part, sensual. Half of the new songs were written by Hilson. It's curious how Hilson decides to keep or farm out her material.
''I figure that out when I need to,'' Hilson said. ''I obviously get first dibs, but I have sold songs that I would have kept for myself. 'Right Now' for Danity Kane is a song I could have kept for myself. I give up some of my best work. But the well is deep. I don't have a problem writing a great song and have someone else sing it. That's a great thing. It makes me happy when someone takes off singing something I wrote. I have so many songs in me. I love that I can do both things in this business. I can write songs, and someone else can go with those songs, and I can keep it myself. It's the best of both worlds. I'm in a great situation as an artist. I have no complaints.''
The former model has an enviable career. Her first album, 2009's ''A Perfect World,'' peaked in the Top Five of the Billboard 200. ''Knock You Down'' and ''Turnin' Me On'' were big hits. The album earned two Grammy nominations, including Best Rap/Song Collaboration with Kanye West and Ne-Yo for ''Knock You Down.''
Hilson has a knack for pushing the right buttons.
''I've been very fortunate,'' Hilson said. ''I'm very happy with how things have been going.''
Hilson hasn't even hit 30 and she has worked with a who's who of musicians. Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Nas and Usher are just some of the luminaries who have connected with Hilson in the studio.

Maybe she did some modelling on the side? She has always said her main thing was songwriting.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the videos. I personally loved them, even though the explicitness of TWYLM dissapointed me.
I understand what you are saying, but people said the same things about Rihanna 5 years ago. She does need to find a niche for herself. She is doing too many styles, but she brings me the best of all of them, so personally, I like it.
For mainstream success, I think she would need to make more KYDs and "I Like"s. She really shines with mid-tempo pop songs. An album like that would probably flop in the US, but she'll be really big in Europe.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, but TWYLM sounds great in the car!
Also in the car, I've played LC to a friend and he thinks it's great.

I had already registered a while back, your post was just the first one I responded to.
But I'm definitely not using Brandy's previous success to defend her current success. As you basically stated, the past is the past. But concerning the present, I still think she's ahead of Ashanti, Kelis etc. as far as relevancy goes and music. It's not me being delusional, it's just my own $0.02
But concerning Keri I agree. For me personally, it not that she lacks on "it" factor as I think there's something captivating about her, but others have perfected it. At current, I don't know how big she'll be but I do think she has the potential to be big. She has great records, its just that her team is lacking. They've picked horrible singles and they over promoted PGR, but I have yet to see anything for LC which is one of the biggest records on the album. Up until LC, the singles have been chosen poorly and for the past week, I've started to become disappointed in this era. SMH... so much potential gone to waste.
*plays Beautiful Mistake anyway*

!!!!
I co-sign everything!
I've been a Rihanna fan since Pon de Replay, and I remember thinking she would fade into obscurity afterward "If It's Loving..." but look at her now.
And I agree with what you said about choosing songs like "I Like." I know people who don't really care for Keri but love that song, as well as "Won't Be Long."
It's a shame some of her better stuff doesn't make the album. I'm still upset about "Hurts Me."
