Modern pop music fans are only interested and gratification and recognition, but I think anyone who can remember the world of celebrity before social media became really prominent and people like Gaga made it en vogue to be in constant contact with the fans will agree with me that this as-a-fan-I-demand-that-you-acknowledge-my-presence-and-stroke-my-ego-and-reassure-me-that-I'm-doing-the-right-thing-in-supporting-you mentality sort of ruins that mysterious, untouchable, godlike quality that celebrities have used to have. I don't want my favorite celebrities to relate to me, I don't want them to address me as if I'm an equal because I'm not an equal and any insistence by a superstar celebrity that I am somehow on their level would strike me as totally preposterous and pretty disingenuous. And really, I just think it's silly that in 2011 we demand that our celebrities are not just appreciative, but that they be annoyingly vocal and over-the-top about it. It's not about us, it's about these people with exceptional talents and abilities sharing their gifts with the world, but we're a stupid, spoiled, self-centered generation of nobodies with unwarranted egos and we won't be satisfied to operate under the assumption that our favorite pop stars somehow appreciate our loyalty. Yes, by all means celebrities should occasionally take a moment to thank the fans, but daily twitter feeds need not consist of 67 I love you guys.
I've always felt that Britney must appreciate the support of her fans. It's something I've never really questioned because her occasional thank yous that she throws out have been enough to fill that must-have-recognition-and-appreciation void. Britney hasn't really hopped on this bandwagon of constantly talking to the fans the way some celebrities have, and somehow it reflects poorly on her in the eyes of new fans and outsiders that she's not always blowing hot air up our assholes and stroking our egos. She's no less outspoken about her appreciation of the fans than she was in her early career. We didn't make the claim that she was unappreciative or that she had an entirely apathetic view of her fans back then. Why do we do it now? Cause she doesn't have a cutesy nickname for her dedicated stans and she doesn't remind us that she's oh-so-thankful-for-everything on an hourly basis? It still feels special to me when Britney puts her appreciation for her fans into word. I don't know that it would give me that feeling if it was something I was exposed to every day.

I sooo agree. I love Britney. Britney may not be that showy of her gratitude to her fans unlike other artists, but I know she value her fans so much. As long as she is releasing hot records, keeping her feet on the ground, and stay simple, humble and sweet, I will continue to support and love her no matter what.
