after Britney came out she influenced more record companies to sign females with little to no talent and manufacture them into "sexy" , pop teeny boppers. I just don't see where her serious influence on the industry is. The bubblegum pop sound had already exploded with the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys, like someone has already said in this thread. She's not even taken that seriously in the industry.

She is also the poster girl for lipsynching. When the word comes up, her fans' heads shoot up, even when it's not actually about her. Says a lot.
But this is the distinction I don't get. If it's not about who is "reigning" now but whoever has proven themselves through longevity I don't see any measure whereby Britney should be considered the Queen of Pop rather than Madonna. There's someone who's most relevant at the moment and someone who has proven themselves to be THE most relevant over the course of a longer and more storied career, and Britney is neither.
And Britney was absolutely not the sole cause of pop music's resurgence. Pop acts like the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, and NSync were seeing phenomenal success before she came along. She did kick off a wave of imitators, but neither she nor BOMT can get credit for starting the pop music resurgence.
And I disagree that other artists' schticks haven't in large part defined their perception in the public eye. To this day Madonna is still remembered for how overtly sexual she was and her shocking antics that frequently had to do with religion. At the same time, her music was good, so the larger-than-life persona provided a means through which her music would become more likely to still be played on radio stations today.
If you can't make the distinction between a new artist with a couple "hits" under their belt (which could just as well describe someone like Taoi Cruz) and an artist who has amassed a very large fanbase (aren't they the only ones who like BTW and have kept it on top for six week?) in such a short period of time, then I dunno. All I'll say is if you're planning on Gaga to fall off the face of the earth any time soon, I wouldn't be holding my breath. I'm just surprised because you'd think Britney fans would know this better than anyone else.
You're taking the words I say and dissecting them into an entirely different meaning for yourself. I'm speaking in very general and very clear terms. I'm not downplaying Gaga's fame or what she has done. I'm not expecting Lady Gaga to fall off the face of the earth, although, I wouldn't be surprised if that came to fruition. My simple, straightforward point in all of my posts with you have been, Lady Gaga is not The Queen of Pop based on what she has given us. She's a hot item in the industry and it is what it is. And although Madonna has been in game longer, Britney Spears remains the modern Queen of Pop because of her own longevity and continual relevance in the MUSIC industry, unlike Lady Gaga, which I believe holds more relevance in the MEDIA. Britney Spears does not become "Queen" when Madonna dies. Too literal. That is all.
1. She has sold 17 million albums (even though totals for The Fame are closer to 14 million, and her remix album has not sold 2 million)
2. She has sold 30 million singles in the U.S. (even though it's closer to 27)
Those numbers combined would give her a total of 47 million records worldwide. Not including single sales from other markets outside the U.S.
Unless you want to argue that she has sold the same amount of singles in the U.S. as she has sold all over the world and dismiss the fact that the U.S. is the biggest musical market in existence than it's obvious she hasn't sold 75 million records. She's likely in the 50 millions at the biggest extreme. Not in the 60's or the 70's.
you do know that rock country and r&b were more mainstream in the early 2000's than dance music and what duca said was not wrong. Please learn a bit more.

You just said it. Would any of these women who are ruling the pop charts now even be here if not for Britney? Katy. Rihanna. Ke$ha. the three biggest CHR girls out right now would not be here, and I am purposely leaving Gaga out but even she qualifies. Miley, Taylor Swift, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, Hilary Duff, all owe their careers to Britney. The construction of American Idol is largely built off of the likability, heart, and personality that Spears created with her image and marketing with Baby One More Time. Even the girls that talk about how much they hate Britney Spears, and how they don't want to make bubble gum music comes from the fact that Spears embodied everything that pop music is and was in the 90's. So Avril, P!nk, and numerous others who work so hard to build the Anti-Britney image are there because there was a Britney image to begin with. So on and so forth. The impact is there. People seem to want to discredit it because it's Britney.

The point here is the fact that most of her sales total comes from the U.S. It's highly unlikely that she sold another 30 million in sales outside of the U.S. when it's obviously her biggest sales market.

It was pop, and not dance music that she made big... Dance music came later.

Britney influenced other artists to come out with a serious image and substantial talent then?. That's not something i'd be proud of when she herself is the opposite. no shade

She did. Poker Face hit #1 almost ****ing everywhere. She also has the 2 out of the 3 most digital selling singles, which are Poker Face and Just Dance - around 6-7M each.
I'm not arguing US isn't the biggest market, which it is. But worldwide also give a lot of sales, to any artist...
Charging people hundreds of dollars and not bothering to even sing = diva behavior b/c she think she's too good to even try.
That's wrong information, as per usual from you. She didn't have time to stop. She was late. Unfortunately she didn't have time to sign autographs, and do the red carpet line but that's what happens. As to her not singing live, Britney lip syncs your not going to the tour for that. Your going to the tour for a Vegas like spectacle. Everyone knows that.

I cannot. She obviously did not sell 30 million singles outside of the U.S. sales market. That's just ridiculous, especially considering that all the sales market are smaller than the U.S. sales market.
