Well, he would have to keep his buzz and keep his mouth shut if he wants to win that award. Herbie Hancock and Plant & Krauss are respected veterans. Kanye hasn't reached that level yet.
|
He is releasing "Watch the Throne" and a 6th Studio Album in 2011. That should keep some buzz going

His album went Platinum, its not like it completely flopped by any means commercially...

We'll see. Kanye is hardly a lock for the trophy.
Adele, for example, is already making a case for the Grammys this year. Reviews are not the deciding factor. This is not the critics' favorite awards.

I agree, he isn't a lock but unlike Adele he is already been nominated for this award 3 times and has 14 grammy awards....
We will just have to wait and see

It didn't at all. It was commercially successful, just not successful enough to guarantee a win.
I'd love to have this convo again sometime.

Arcade Fire?
lol no I'm just playing, I do agree if he wanted to make it a 'lock' he would have had to push quite a few more records, but I think people are underestimating him. People who do focus on the music world know of the acclaim of MBDTF no doubt, it did open with 500k and eventually crossed platinum with zero hits and zero promotion starting from like.. a month prior to the album coming out. That's gotta count for something. It basically sold off acclaim alone and it would be a nice story considering the backlash he faced prior to the release and his 'comeback' per say. Plus, there is that AOTL remix coming (loll)
I do think Adele will end up being the bigger threat though, if she isn't already lol =\

Yet, he continues to lose in the general field. Geo, let's not.

Yeah, and Arcade Fire was still very new and fresh on voters' minds.

How does he generally lose.... He has 14 grammys..... 3 nominations for album of the year is incredible as well.

He keeps winning in the Rap field but fails to win in the general field with acclaim AND hit singles and sales. He even lost BNA when he was nominated for 10 Grammys.

Duh, Rap Songs, Albums, Records, Artists hardly ever win.... The Grammys are biased.
Last Hip Hop/Rap AOTY
2004
Song of the Year
1996?? No not really....
So.... Never.
Record of the Year
Never.
Best New Artist
2006
Ok..... what do you expect him to win in the general field?

"I felt like I was definitely robbed. I'm not going to give any politically correct bulls**t ass comment... I was the best new artist this year."
Story - that rant was the first time I ever heard about Kanye and I hated him for it (cause I loved Maroon 5), till I heard his next album
Anyway this years Grammy's are going to be so much more exciting than last year, I hope Gaga and Beyonce get definite nominations (which they probably will). Will be an epic showdown

So, based on this, why are you expecting him to take AOTY?

Because the album is just incredible.
I just have a feeling.... I mean he was nominated 3 times before, who else has been nominated that many times without a win?

If there's not any, Kanye has a pretty good chance at being the first.
