I hope you're not taking this as me saying all of her ballads sound forced and fake. I love IIWAB, That's Why You're Beautiful, Irreplaceable, Resentment, Save the Hero, and pretty much all of DIL.
There's a very fine line between being emotional/raw and being melodramatic. I hope (and think) that she'll find that threshold this time around.

My problem with IASF lies more with the Sasha side than it does with the I Am side tbh... I love most of the songs on the I Am side besides BHG but looking at that side with a critic's hat on, it lacks spark & could've had more than a single approach (somber production) to showing emotion. On top of that, Satellites & Disappear damn near sounded like the same song on first listen. I grew to really appreciate Ave Maria, it's her most heartfelt song in her entire career considering it's about something really close to her, her marriage. It's a beautiful song.
Then looking at the Sasha side, again I love all songs (even Video Phone) but I can't deny that some of the production lacks in intensity. SL & Diva were the only intense songs with an aggressive sound & correctly conveyed Sahsa in a proper manner. Ego too, but was more of a laid back Sasha. SD & Radio don't convey Sasha at all. Nothing on the Sasha side can match the freshness of B'Day's production. It was all very commercial & restrained in sound, Sahsa Fierce.
So yeah, you can talk about every song on IASF being a potential single, but that just further adds to the ideal that the album is very commercial in sound and that the strength lies in the individual songs rather than in the album as a cohesive piece. You can talk about hoodrats preferring B'Day & only mature people understand I Am... Sahsa Fierce but even old ass critics who've been reviewing albums all their lives gave B'Day better marks.
You know I can go all day on this subject & no one has yet to say what I've stated as wrong.

I would definitely switch out some songs on the Sasha side for some B'Day tracks.

The way she arranged Gift From Virgo's vocals over the original track made it seem they just belonged there.

When you have guys in the barbershop arguing over what the best song on your first album was you've created a classic. Mind you most of these guys you wouldn't expect to listen to Beyonce's music at all.
But Yea She has a lot of underlying meanings in her songs even with just the titles alone. "Me, Myself and I" for example can apply to anything, not just a relationship. Her musicianship is something she DOES NOT get enough credit for. People fail to realize you don't have to play an instrument to be considered a musician. Her VOICE is her instrument. The way she builds her harmonies and melodies are genius. Her Arrangements are Unmatched in my opinion. The Harmonies on Baby Boy>>>>>> Life itself. When you first hear the song, you would think that it is a flute playing under the chorus, but when you listen to the Acapella version, you hear that it's her voice building that harmony. WHO ELSE But the Queen?!

Yes, Baby Boy A Capella *****. I hate how she's such a genius at arrangements
I think most stans **** on DIL undeservedly because, like iBeyonce, said, people go up for it as Beyonce's preeminent album. A lot of R&B stans (not specifically stans of Beyonce) go hard for it. Or the used-to-be Beyonce stans that still lurk BWB but don't like her anymore cuz she "sold out."

Well for those who don't know Beyonce or her previous albums MAY think that. But all the songs she puts on there resonate with her in some way. So by no means would I call any songs on there contrived. If you're interested, Bey talked about Broken-Hearted Girl before and why she put it on the album:

I don't pay attention to them. They were never Real Fans to begin with. They just jumped on the bandwagon like a lot of people because bey was the IT girl at the time. I'm not here for people who want her to stay in a box and remake the same album over and over again. Like her husband said, "You want my old ****, buy my old albums" and Keep it moving. Not here for the Fickle fans.
I'm not surprised though Some of the same people said Whitney had no soul back in the day and she was a sell out. If you ask those same folks today they would more than likely tell you that she has all the soul in the world and her music is classic.
