That's how most songs that shoot to #1 have behave. In fact I'm not sure the last time a song shot to #1 and stayed there this long.

GaGa's video is so over the top, long, weird, creepy, etc. Can you not see how that would turn people off? Just because she tries to put all these images together and calls it "art", doesn't make it good.
I, personally, see the video as messy. Just like the last two, there are so many things going on, it's just all over the place, and you get lost with all these seemingly random images.
HIAM is very, very flashy and that works for alot of people. The scene with Britney in the wedding dress and all her old videos with colored paint everywhere just looks amazing.
The general public doesn't care that much.

That's not what I said.
It's obvious people like the song, otherwise it's sales wouldn't be remaining as (frankly, amazingly) consistent as they have been. If it was all hype, sales would have plummeted after 1 week when the "Lady Gaga lead single factor" wore off.

It doesn't seem to turn off media outlets or the general public, considering her videos get a substantial amount of attention from both (usually positive - Alejandro has been her only video to get significant backlash).
I can see why it would turn stans of other girls off though. No one wants their fave's videos to get overshadowed, and by making her videos long, over the top, weird, and creepy, Lady Gaga is able to do that.

I think you're underestimating the power of Gaga's name.

And the truth will set you free.
It's certainly better than HIAM from a technical standpoint. Better choreography, make-up, art direction, and editing etc.

Besides some of the horrendous choreography, the video is actually pretty good, far better than Alejandro. Though I kinda wish she would realize that these are music videos, not exhibits at the Museum of Modern Art.

I appreciate the exhibitionism... it's hawt.
