thats true too. Well her last album got 3 number 1's on it. Shes just country where as taylor has that pop appeal to some of her songs.

Agree. It's like musical blackmail. Kinda.

I don't mind listening to a few album cuts before getting the full album. I loved the promo singles Taylor and Katy released and before that I wasn't sure about buying their albums. Many people who aren't stans bought the albums thanks to those countdowns.

Top 5 debuts at least, possibly top 3.

wait, you mean in the USA or WW? because she sold 800K+ WW with Circus, and FF will be superior

Indeed. Taylors promotion is fantastic, that is undeniable.
Britney could sell even better than her if her promo team stepped it up. Just because she can bring the sales without promo doesn't mean they shouldn't promo so she can reach her full potential.
|
Britney's team is lazy.
They should follow the steps of Big Machine and partner with a big store (Wal-Mart or whatever, just so it won't be Target) to put special editions, with t-shirts or anything else, at special price, in every place of the market, near the food area, electronics, etc.
They should also give away iTunes discount cards for the album (or something along those lines, I don't if it can be done though) in gay nightclubs and gay places, cause we know the gays love Britney.
And the album should be discounted first week too...
Not to mention, they should've placed posters and billboards over the major cities already

I wasn't gonna buy TD before the promo singles. It changed my mind. I'll be buying the Britney album regardless though, even if I hate the promos, I've been buying her albums since I was 6, it's something I have to see through to the end

Exactly. I'd have never bought Katy's album without E.T and Circle the Drain because some people (like me) don't like a certain album's lead single. A countdown gives interested people just enough to make a decision about buying the album. Not to mention extra single sales .

Fans are usually blaming Britney for the lack of promotion, when it's all Jive's fault. Katy's, GaGa's and Rihanna's first singles got posters, billboards and major promo even without performances.

That's what makes me so mad, I have to walk by
Gaga's
posters every time I head to and leave from work.
At least give us that Jive

I agree with the target/wal-mart deal. It worked for Taylor, now Gaga is trying it. Didn't Katy do it too?
But I think the key to Britney selling more records is getting back on the promo circut, performances on TV, interviews, travelling the world and doing promo in Europe and other places. She hasn't really done it since ITZ. I know she did some promo for Circus but it was minimal. Things have changed for her, she doesn't like being away from her kids, she doesn't seem as comfortable in the public eye and she seems to be avoiding interviews probably due to her personal past but it's what this album really needs.
I'm hoping for a tell all interview or something with Ellen or Oprah in album release week. That would do wonders. And I wish she would do at least one interview in the UK, the Irish and British have always been so good to her.

The most similar promo this era to the one you named we got were a few shirts signed by Britney.

If Jive set up the promo Britney may or may not do it. We don't know if it's Jive or a decision Britney has made. I think it is Jive too. It's like Christina blaming her albums disappointing sales on RCA, it is on both of them. I hate to say it but it is. It's equal parts to the artist and the record company. If Britney wanted promo, she'd get it.

I think Jive thinks that twitter, facebook and other social media sites will do the work for them. Yeah, it helps but you do need more.

I don't remember Katy doing it, if they did, she indeed is a major singles artists, I actually think her countdown did nothing for her because they chose to release the wrong "mini" singles, Circle The Drain" and "Not Like The Movies", the 2 worst tracks of the album, it only missed "Pearl" and the disaster would've been bigger. Taylor released the right songs, I didn't like Back to December that much but it's just me cause I don't like ballads in general, but Mean got me hooked for the album

Sometimes I just don’t like the lead single and I’m sure some people don’t like “Hold It Against Me.” Hearing a few more tracks could change their minds.
