Yes Ke$ha had a better debut era than rihanna ever did. We are not denying that but when u are releasing an album thats not in the current trend you wouldnt expect it to do much. Ke$ha released a very mainstream dance pop album that was the IN thing at that point. Rihanna debuted in one of the most competitive selling climates. The year of Mariah's big comeback and when Pop music wasnt so one sided as it is today. you had Pop, rock, r&b, and rock on a level playing field. Nowadays its easier for a pop artist to get #1 hits because pop radio has become so "restricted".
She never had a breakout era until A Girl Like me where she started to shift more to an R&B/pop sound while keeping a hint of reggae. IDK if you have listened to Music Of The Sun but the 2 singles are the only pop songs on it. So yes, it underperformed. Does it matter ow? No. Janet Jackson was a nobody up until her 3rd album and look where she is now. Need not to worry about Rihanna people have been counting her out ever since then and shes still here now so face it. Words, ridicule and hate cannot keep her down.

The album still sold 1,350,000+ albums in the US, and went Platinum in over 7 countries, Gold in 3 more. How would that make her a singles artist when she only had one big worldwide hit and a limited promotional campaign?

IN 2006
5 years later , sales have declinded way over 50% , if sales were like they were now , AGLM might not of even gone Gold .

No one can call Ke$ha out because she is selling well for a new artist.

My point, annd you seem to be the only one that sees that.
You can't compare Ke$ha and Rihanna because the latter has been around 5 years longer.
Just like how you cant compare Rihanna and Britney.

Ke$ha is selling well for being new. I'm sure a lot of people didn't think much of Rihanna when she debuted, but she changed all that around.
Who knows, maybe one day Ke$ha will have her "Umbrella" moment & become a household name.

So you wouldn't consider TiK ToK her "Umbrella" moment?

Exactly. When Rihanna came out she was like the Keri Hilson of today when it came to success. No offense to keri. You had girls like Beyonce, Ciara, Fergie, Ashanti, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani. I mean how could she compete.

NO because its success was mostly local.
When I meant success I was also referring to impact.

Tik Tok was a global phenomenon and it was #1 in several countries. It wasn't local.

No. It was HUGE but Umbrella had acclaim, it was nominated for Grammys, VMAs. It made people pay attention to Rihanna in a different way.
