The Academy will do anything to avoid giving a rap album/artist love in the general categories. Please remember these are the same people who snubbed Kanye West for Best New Artist in favor of Maroon 5.
I think he'll be nominated regardless of the timing/lack of hits because the critical acclaim is just too immense to ignore. But a victory? I'm not so confident.

PJ Harvey is getting some of the best reviews she's had in ten years - but Bjork is also supposed to release this year, and if NARAS is picking one female to ride with, THEY ALWAYS CHOOSE QUEEN B(jork). Who is getting into this category?

Eminem released a D- album, Kanye is perennially unlikable.

Kanye is really polarizing. A lot of people would be mad if he lost, but just as many would be ecstatic.
