You may THINK Gaga is overdue next year... but you could be wrong.
Anyway I'm just eliciting discussion, nothing against Eminem. In my belief TFM launched a superstar with a perfect balance of critical and commercial success. And in the long run... 5 yrs from now it would look like a much better winner for them. It would like they made the right decision at the right time of her career.

I never thought about that, but it dosen't bother me in the context of Gaga because i personally never anticipated her winning Album of the Year for TFM anyways. And though i wish she would have won in 2010, I think Taylor was a justified winner.
With that said, i still think that this current nomination only increases her chances of winning next year not only because of the overdue effect, but also because it will undoubetdly be some of her best work to date. I guess it all boils down to what someone said earlier, that people gladly accept the "career consideration" when it benefits the one they'd like to see win. But if you believe Gaga deserves to win this year it's all a moot point. I don't think an 8 song EP by GOD himself should be placed in the category, so i'm looking to next year...

It's funny, cuz when I was looking through the Metacritic ratings for past nominees last night, TF/TFM are among the best-reviewed pop albums to have been nominated in the past ten years.
People underestimate how much critical acclaim she has.

The Suburbs and Need You Now could also "steal the show"
Honestly, The Fame should have won by a mile last year. The Fame Monster is an amazing album but I don't think it will win AOTY sadly...

Born This Way will probably get nominated for AOTY if it is critcally favored and smashing I really think if she doesn't win this year, she'll win next time

They haven't given AOTY to albums from the same genre field two years in a row in years, if ever (I admittedly haven't looked back that far back into the winners' history). But I know they haven't in the past decade or so. That hurts Lady A's chances significantly, and also the fact that they only landed one mega hit from their album. They've also been stuck in Em's shadow for much of 2010, be it album sales or award shows.
Arcade Fire's too unknown IMO, but they could prove to be a dark horse and pull a huge upset. I really only see that happening as a very slight possibility though.
And Katy will not win, let's get that out of the way right now.
It's basically a two-way race between Eminem and Gaga. I hope the Academy really doesn't think about who's had the longer career and who's been denied more, but rather who came out with the better material. Gaga undoubtedly had the better album, and it was an improvement on her first. Em has continued to lose his touch with each release.

judging by the past page of assumtions being made, i think it's safe to say this place will Blow if they announce "Teenage Dream" as the winner

I agree that Arcade Fire is a dark horse... I for some reason could see them winning to...
Gaga does have the better material and in reality her hits were larger worldwide then Eminem's singles.... I mean Not Afraid and LTWYL was it... No Love was a flop.
It will be interesting to see who wins and I hope its gaga.

There's no possible way TD wins. Extremely mediocre album sales compared to expectations, and mixed reviews that lean much closer to the negative side. All of the other nominees are much stronger competitors.

Let's not forget that next year there will be Kanye and Metacritic knows that he's a damn treat. If only people were actually still talking about his album or he was smashing with singles or even promoting I would say that he' would definitely be LOCK for winning, but since it seems that everything related to the album was dead as soon as it dropped, things are still left in the air.

Unless Gaga really does create a true musical masterpiece (I mean masterpiece, and I doubt she will), AOTY will go to Kanye next year. No questions asked.

If Teenage Dream wins
I really hope Gaga wins. TFM was critically favored, fan approved, and Billboard approve. Perfect ingredients. Lady A could be a favorite though because that's safer, and Em is major competition. Arcade really could surprise us all though....but I think the reactions would be really, really sour if anyone but Em or Gaga wins.
ETA: I forgot all about Kanye, whose new record was compared to The Beatles. Yes, he will win no doubt.

Gaga is going to have to release an incredible work of art to compete with Kanye. MBDTF was incredible, I'm sure Gaga will be able to live up to it.

If Teenage Dream wins, might as well give the Grammy for Best New Artist to Justin Bieber too.

I mean... so many things I could say should not happen at the Grammys but two things that won't happen:
1) Katy Perry wins AOTY
2) Justin Bieber wins BNA
If either happen, the music industry will collapse upon itself

Bieber winning is an infinitely more likely prospect than TD winning AOTY.

The nomination was the award for her. I'd piss myself of laughter if she won.

I kind of want Teenage Dream to win just to see how shady her speech is.

True, but even then, Bieber getting that is not likely. Other than teh voice, how many teen-marketed acts have won BNA? He's nominated for ratings, no questions asked.
Drake, Florence, or M&S is getting it.
