Attention seeking may give you a platform but you won't be able to parlay it in to any sort of meaningful impact unless you have the goods that people want to hear.

The music needs to be there, and it is, but the attention-seeking
does help draw attention to her which in turn draws attention to her music and helps her sales.
However as I've said many times, seeking attention through fashion is much less desperate than all the different ways her contemporaries are seeking attention. It's actually creative and fun.
I also find it comical when people say she "sold out" to become a pop star because what she really wanted to be was a lounge type singer. I'm sure at the time she couldn't even have conceived it possible that in a couple years she could be this massive pop star.
I guarantee that when she's performing in front of 20k people, collecting her awards, getting her certifications and reviewing her bank account balance, she's not thinking "but what I
really wanted to do was be at a jazz bar somewhere."
