Apart from a brief period at the start of the 2000s, mainstream success in the American market has mostly eluded Kylie Minogue. Yet her delectable dance-pop creations have still won her many fans among club-goers, the gay community and, of course, ATRLers (who never met a fabulous diva they didn't love.)
Essential track: "Can't Get You Out of My Head," which was stuck in all of ours throughout 2002
I'm surprised to see her so high. She's definitely one of my faves, but I haven't seen many fellow fans on here. Glad y'all know who the real queens are
He may not have won his season of "American Idol," but his puppy dog face and smooth falsetto still inspired a serious craze among tween girls across the nation. Since then, his wholesome image has won him a solid ATRL fan base. "He doesn't talk about sex, which is like a breathe of fresh air for the industry today," says -mUsIcLoVeR-. "He sings uplifting songs that sometimes become inspirational to others."
For a while there, it looked like Ashlee Simpson might be the Next Big Thing in the music industry. She even accomplished something her older sister never did: hitting #1 on the Billboard 200 (with debut Autobiography). But then came the lip-synching scandal on "SNL" and it was all downhill from there. Disappointing response to her second album led to anemic sales for her third, and a much-maligned acting career followed. Still, her most dedicated ATRL stans have persisted and she maintains a strong presence on this site.
Essential track: she never quite reached the heights of first single "Pieces of Me"
If it weren't for Ciara, would we ever have cared this much about Keri Hilson? The accomplished songwriter struck out numerous times at the beginning of her debut era, becoming a punching bag for CiCi stans during their fave's darkest time. But then "Knock You Down" smashed and suddenly Keri had a promising career all her own. Recently, her second album No Boys Allowed had first-week sales three times those of Ciara's Basic Instinct, giving Keri stans the last laugh... for now.
Essential track: "Knock You Down" featuring Ne-Yo and Kanye West, the hit that saved her career
