This is one of the smartest promotional techniques I have heard of, since, ever.
Name one media source that won't report this? Name one person who won't have heard of it's debut after this?
Y'all wanted her to do promo this era, well here's the start of it. Deal
This is an excellent idea, once Radio is on wait for 24 hours after a facebook campaign, and people waitin to download, this song will debut #1 on the billboard it's first week. Radios will ***** it, fans will be buying the **** out of it!
Excellent idea. Hope it's true

The whole idea is FLAWED! There's a reason why a single is always released to radio first and then sent for download, a minimum of one week later. It builds hype and builds up the Audience Impressions. If you're familiar with the Billboard formula, then you would know that the Audience Impressions (AI) play a huge role in the formula and charting of a single. If the song is released to radio and made available for download at the same time, we may be looking at a difference between a Top 3 or 5 hit from a #1 hit. Britney's sales will be high that's a given, but we need the Audience Impressions to be at least 30 million before we attempt to release the song for downloading on iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon, etc. Especially if the song doesn't have a cross-format appeal. She'll smash POP radio, but what else? Britney can easily get 25 million in one week from mostly Pop radio alone that's why I say a week minimum.
The facebook/social networking marketing plan is a great idea, but only for a separate release. Don't do the simultaneous release of radio and downloads at the same time, that hurts the longevity of the single. WE ARE HERE FOR THAT!

YES. The Facebook idea is AMAZING. Once all those people start posting Britney's single information across their walls the word will spread like WILDFIRE. It will show up in TONS of Feeds. Assuming that the average Facebook account has 250 friends - 250 x 2,000,000 = 500,000,000 (which is actually Facebook's population).

It would make a big deal if she's competing against people who have Audience impressions of like 150 million along with 160 million+ digital sales. Britney needs at least some airplay to help her total numbers with the BB formula. Cross-format artists are almost the biggest threats for Britney. it was a battle for us to just get Womanizer #1 when competing against T.I.'s cross-format radio hit, "Whatever You Like."

if it debuts this monday on radio and on itunes its sales wont count until the next week (thursday 20) and it will only have 3-4 days of radio play that will count for next weeks chart (thursday 13)
for next weeks bb hot 100 all it will have will be 3-4 days of radio play
for the week after's bb hot 11 it will have a whole week of sales and about 10 days of radio play
jive knows they will reach those 2 million posts easily on monday so an itunes release must probably be already determined for next tuesday at midnight.. which would count as an inmediat release to itunes.. after the premiere earlier on monday

Exactly, The difference between them was just of 4 million, hadn't Britney had that 25-30 million AI (I don't remember how much AI she had), she'd have a Top 10 peaking song with a run that would be lucky to peak Top 3 later.
All pop girls right now get some airplay outside of pop, even if only rhythmic, Britney only has pop, and ONLY pop, the rest give little to no play to her, as everyone knows this is the same reason she can't have several Top 5 weeks let alone several weeks at #1...

Facebook is being used because it gets more traffic and long staying user time than Google. If it can spread across Facebook, 2 MILLION times, the number of eyes that see it will be utterly staggering.
A great idea for promotion. Hopefully it leads to a good chart run and highest peak position possible.

On one hand, I agree with foxay because that's the way things have always worked. On the other hand, I agree with Ghandi and KRL because modern technology really is the future to promo. This is just the start in the shift of media importance from radio to internet. I'm torn, I just hope it does well. All I wanted was to hear it on the 7th, download it on iTunes, and watch it hit #1. If at least two of these things don't happen, I'll be pretty upset.

This would backfire for Avril, as she's been gone 4 years. We'd be waiting years for the single

I really hope the Facebook thing is real...however, I hope it will just unlock a radio release.
