At the same time as her interview with Diane Sawyer, RB would've made her the punchline of many jokes, sadly more than she already was. Some people though back then & still do today that joking about abuse is okay. But RB would not have helped anything.
It was perfect to release the song when it was, the incident wasn't getting nearly as much press.
