emmanuel, the number of #1 hits on their debut albums has nothing to do with this thread.
What really makes a song iconic is how it's remembered after a long time, how many people actually bought and/or listened to the music overall and how recognizable it is.
Spending a limited amount of time on some chart's No. 1 position means nothing.
both did amazing 'Complicated' and 'Sk8er Boi' even her third one 'I'm With You' but the biggest according to charts one was def 'Complicated' and it was her first single.
3 consecutive #1 singles on a debut album?
WHO ELSE?? no one.
Christina get close only
I'm not talking about charting position. I'm talking about impact big difference.
"Sk8r Boi" overshadowed "Complicated".
britney. . it spawned a line of other teen pop tarts like Mandy, Jessica, that other one, etc. its look is distinct and people know exactly what you're talking about when you say "the schoolgirl outfit". not only that but it caused controversy. its impact is undeniable.

The schoolgirl outfit is considered to be one of Spears' iconic looks and is on display at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada

and FYI "Work It Out" was for a soundtrack to her movie. It was not from her Debut album. She didn't even start recording her album until after that song. But it was a top ten hit in the UK so that counts for something i guess.
IMO CIL & BOMT are Neck and Neck when it comes to Cultural Impact and Critical Acclaim.
