If you're really religious and it means so much to you, you better not be gay, divorced, you better not **** anyone before marriage, you better live a clean life by that book you hold so dear.
The consensus seems to be, I can ****, smoke, drink, cheat, lie, steal, etc. as long as there's no cross in the background while I do all these things.
Who said you can do whatever you want as long as religion is not mixed in with it? Only those who truly and genuinely live 100% by what religion preaches have a right to cast judgment.

sex, divorces, homosexuality, or any of the other things listed aren't direct actions taken against religion. When you intentionally mix vulgarity and religion together, it's a different story.

And yet religion says you'll go to Hell if you do these things.

Actually breaking the 'law' of any religion is in fact a direct action against that religion. You can be excommunicated for most of the things Nicole mentioned in a lot of branches of the Christian Church.

yeah I get what you're saying. The Bible was written over 2000 years ago and it was appropriate for that time. Yet, many things have been altered and Christianity is slowly modernizing with current times.

We're all going to hell according to at least one religion. We have a lot to look forward to

The whole concept is so silly to me. Like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, but less fun.

It's funny how some things that used to be punishable by horrible things are now acceptable yet other things, such as homosexuality, are still deemed unacceptable and some Christians would even say evil.
Most of the Old Testament is now in a way ignored, yet the church has chosen to keep in some discrimination. If it wants to totally modernise it needs to make the OT nothing but a bedtime story. Sorry to tell you but organised religion is on the decline and for good reason.

I know but it's hard for me to be tolerant of so-called tolerant people when they claim that anyone who disagrees with them will burn for eternity.

I see where you're coming from. Even if that is stated in the Bible, and even if I am myself a Catholic, I totally disagree with that. In the coming years, I know there are going to be A LOT of changes happening in the Church. They are already starting to happen.

I agree with you.
If I were to believe in any God it would be a God who rewards someone for living a good life rather than someone who demands you read a book, go to church and 'let him into your heart'.
Some in my family are extremely Christian and they told my cousins who were 5 and 3 at the time that I was going to hell because I don't go to church. That to me is disgusting. I don't want to be part of anything like that.

I agree. But that's not the religion itself, it's mostly the people. People can take whatever they want from religion, be it good or bad. Hate on the people, not the religion. Everyone has their own destiny and beliefs in life but we need to try our best to respect each other's opinions, no matter how difficult. Love is the ultimate religion.

Did you know that the Pope was hiding a paedophile ring within the Catholic church?
The UK is debating whether to hold him responsible for it, as he should be, when he comes here again.
Seems like change is coming real fast.

I don't know what kind of Church they go to, but nobody around here is like that. Even a Priest wouldn't say something like that.... Religion is definitely modernizing to current times. 40 years ago, you had angry and violent Nuns teaching Catechism...not anymore. There are gays that go to Church and they are accepted. Some of the words in the Bible may be outdated, but that should not represent Religion as a whole.

Ireland is extremely religious. And here girls that get pregnant under the age of 18 can still be sent to a convent to have the baby in secret and are forced to give it up.
The church may be changing on the surface but horrible damaging things still go on, they are just no longer publicised the same.
