Nope, because then she would do so every Christmas. It's too old.

I heard they changed the rules this year. Plus it's been re-released on her new album.

They only changed the rule for albums. Why you think California Gurls went recurrent on the Hot 100 this week?

With about a month in the year left to go, here are how things are stacking up in the year-end charts!
On the pop chart, Ke$ha's "TiK ToK" looks to be the top song of the year, but it was a close race with both "Bad Romance" and "In My Head." For the longest time, "In My Head" was ahead of "TiK ToK" in recurrent airplay, and it looked like "In My Head" could end up being the year's number one song, but "TiK ToK" proved more powerful and stayed ahead of "In My Head" late into the year, and even "Bad Romance" put a fright in "TiK ToK" as it has recently been increasing in recurrent airplay. I guess radio is begging for more GaGa. There is still competition between "Bad Romance" and "In My Head" for number two, though. "Bad Romance" currently sits at number two with 228,689 plays, but "In My Head" is right behind it with 215,184 plays, and "In My Head" has recently increased in its recurrent airplay as well.
Over on country, it's another race as Josh Turner's "Why Don't We Just Dance" and Joe Nichols' "Gimmie That Girl" are 361 spins apart! Looks like "Gimmie That Girl" will prove to have the upper hand, though. It's recurrent airplay is stronger and will overtake Josh Turner probably next week. For Carrie Underwood fans, her highest entry is "Temporary Home" at number 24, and for Taylor Swift fans, her highest entry is "Mine" at 59.
On rhythmic, "Say Aah" is the clear winner for the year, but "Nothin' on You" takes a nice bow at number two. The top five is pretty much a lock on this format as well. "BedRock" will be number three, "OMG" number four, and "Rude Boy" rounds out the top five.
On urban, the song that shook up the format, Alicia Keys' "Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready)," looks to be the number one song of the year. "Say Aah" and "How Low" were a close second and third, though. Usher looks to have two top ten entries here with "There Goes My Baby" (#3) and "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)" (#6). For the Ciara fans, they will be happy to know "Ride" sits at #25, but looks to be passed by Drake's "Miss Me."
On alternative, Rise Against's "Savior" looks to be the number song, with Muse's "Uprising" bowing at number two. Phoenix's "1901" will be number three, Dirty Heads' "Lay Me Down" number four, and Weezer's "(If You Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" rounding out the top 5.
On the overall chart, the top hit of the year looks to be Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now." No surprise there as it was a big hit this year on pop, ac, hot ac, and country. Train's "Hey, Soul Sister" looks to be #2. "Nothin' On You," "California Gurls," and "OMG" round out the top 5. Highest Lady GaGa entry is "Bad Romance" at number 11. Highest Ke$ha entry is "TiK ToK" at 8. Highest Rihanna entry is "Rude Boy" at 6. (For fans of those artists.) Beyonce even has a slim shot of making the top 100 with "Sweet Dreams," which is currently number 100. However, "Highway 20 Ride," "Second Chance," "Two Is Better Than One," and "Young Forever" are on her heels.

Huh? So cant old songs chart on the Hot100., even if its airplay and sales are good enough. If thats true then the Hot 100 chart is a shambles, honestly at least over here in the UK anything can chart, no matter how old. Just like AIWFCIY, its going to chart in a few weeks as its pretty high on itunes atm

^Yes, the Billboard Hot 100 has a recurrent rule. If it has been on the chart for 20 weeks and is below number 50, it gets taken off and is never allowed to return unless it's actually being re-released. Since "All I Want for Christmas Is You" isn't being re-released, and it's already went recurrent years ago, it's not allowed to chart again. I like the rule. It makes the chart less cluttered around Christmas, Halloween, and New Year's when old songs are popular for a few minutes. Let other songs have a chance.

Wow, I never would have expected "In My Head" to be threatening for top pop song of the year. It's almost universally despised by critics and it's a pretty conventional, forgettable hit. Imagine the complaints if it ended up getting the #1 spot.

How are "Bad Romance" and "Tik Tok" so low? They've been dominating all year long. Is it because a lot of their airplay counted towards late 2009? I was predicting them both to finish in the top 5 of year-end Hot 100 chart, so hopefully when all the other stuff is factored in, they will. I just really hope Lady Antebellum isn't the #1 of the year. That song is the WORST!

I wouldn't call them low. "Hey Soul Sister", "Need You Now", "OMG", "Cali Gurls", and most likely the rest of the songs in front of them were all either multi-format smashes, or have been played continuously throughout the year.

How does either of those things not describe "Tik Tok" and "Bad Romance"? They were both multi-format (pop, rhythmic, Hot AC) smashes that went to the top of the airplay chart. Both of these songs have also been charting since late 2009, so they've had all year to gain spins. Yet "Tik Tok" is at #8 and "Bad Romance" couldn't even squeeze into the top 10? I find that very strange.

They describe them very well, which is why they are Top 10/just outside. I'd also consider longevity factors in the different formats. There's something not easily seen, unless Tcatron posted the total spin count at this moment.

I could have sworn they both had really good longevity as well. But maybe their peak AIs just weren't big enough to compete with these other hits. Anyways, I'd love to see the total spin counts at the moment, if tcatron can get those.
