Rihanna is obviously bigger and more famous than Katy, but their album sales are around the same. Katy sold 1.5 million in the US with "One of the Boys" in 2008 with 4 singles after opening with barely 50K, just like Rihanna opened with almost 170K and sold 2.5 million with "Good Girl Gone Bad" in 2007 with 8 singles.

Shipping and selling isn't the same thing. If we're talking about shipments, then sure. "Rated R" went platinum when it didn't sell enough for a gold status. I still think she won't crack 200K.
