WAY more classic hit songs--have you seen the Celebration tracklisting?!--and over the past decade she has delivered better albums. While I prefer AFY to Music, from a critical perspective Music is the better work; American Life is far better than Damita Jo and Confessions on a Dancefloor is incomparable to 20 Y.O. The only one that I'd equate is Hard Candy with Discipline.

She had 4 albums in the '80s and 3 albums (counting Design of a Decade) in the '90s.


Though it's true that Rhythm Nation 1814 was the best-selling album of 1990, which was a big chunk of it.

That doesn't mean she wasn't BIGGER in the '90s though. She was. janet. is her biggest-selling.

This reminds me of Britney and Beyoncé. Britney got lazy (it's in a way understandable after what she went through), but Beyoncé never ever stops. Britney has the advantage in sales over Beyoncé just like Madonna has over Janet though.

She might've been bigger in the 90s, but I still consider her biggest achievements to be RN and Control. I assigned a decade to them because of the year they were released.
I always overlook compilation albums, my bad.


I would still put Whitney and Madge ahead of her for ruling the 90s, and despite Mariah's sales, I'd list her after Janet. But you already agree with me that Janet has had a more tangible impact than Mimi so there's no discussion there.

Madonna doesn't have a stronger catalog. I'll take Janet's classics over her's any day.

Besides I find Madonna's non-classics far more enjoyable and less repetitive than her most known songs. But I do agree that Janet got lazy. IMO, that still doesn't change the fact that she's better. She can still outperform Madonna with ease.
