I really don't think anyone expects her to sell the same amount of albums as she did last year, or as consistently. However, she WILL sell strong enough to beat Rihanna. The older audience will see she has a new album, and purchase it. She doesn't need a hit single or major, 24/7 exposure. Not to mention she opened with 701k last year. It's safe enough to say she'll do at least 500k.
Rihanna...your explanation as to why she might surpass Subo, is ironically all the reasons why she won't. First and foremost, she's never been an album seller.
GGGB is her best effort, and all shade aside, it only sold so much thanks to the re-release and "Take A Bow" / "Disturbia" restoring sales. It was not even beyond 1,000,000 before the end of 2007 (released in June).
Also, take it the fact she's coming off
Rated R. That's hurt her regardless of her going back to the safe sound that did her so well in 2007-2008. "Only Girl" will sell a good amount of records, but that won't determine her opening with numbers that could threaten Subo. Prime example of this year, Katy. "Gurls" was almost 4x platinum before
Teenage Dream, as well as "TD" being huge right before the album. That's month of radio exposure, and lots of promo - less than 200k.
It'll be a surprise, and good one, to see her breakout though. I'm excited for this record. Mainly because I'm hoping it's innovative to SOME extent, and not just all safe music for the sake of selling records. It will hurt my love for her, since
Rated R is such a great record, and made me appreciate her more.
----sorry for the long post, I just like to get all points out! lol.--
