Most people here only pop music fans and nothing else. They don't realize that urban music fans are generally pretty loyal. I'm surprised by Fantasia's numbers, but I did not expect her to open with less than 100k.

I'm sure everyone was similarly surprised by Monica's numbers earlier this year.

They've been massively off before (Britney, Susan Boyle, last summer during the MJ sales surge), but it's rare. I thought Katy would do more, but it retrospect it's not surprising. Ke$ha dominated iTunes even more when her album was released, but she only opened with 152k.

Something over 200k is still possible, but at this point I wouldn't bet on that.

If anything, considering the state of things and promo schedule, I'd say Fantasia has a bigger shot on gaining than Katy, even if I don't think it will be enough for her to steal 'Teenage Dream' #1.

i was talking about tv performance and press

i'm not saying the album is good but the publicity wasn't good and it was her manager fault.. and yes. it is a flop

katy perry is everywhere ( ... payola....), she has a lot of press ( even thought the reviews or the album are terrible) and she is going to sell less than 200 copies.... also the album sounds the same and is pure crap.. she still has payola for radios but i don't think she 'll have the huge era she was thinking.. let's face it.. katy perry and her label was trying to sell this album as one of the best pop-iconic album ever

Don't compare Xtina's and Katy's situations. In the end, I'm willing to bet Katy does WAY more than Xtina.

Remember, Katy did 47k first week and went on to sell 1.2 million units.

GaGa debuted at 24k and went on to sell 3.6 million units.

Taylor debuted at 47k and went on to sell 4.7 million units of her first album.

It's not always about first week sales; it's about what you do in the long-run. Since this Katy's second album, I'm not sure if this situation is the same, but we'll see.

The video, the interviews, the GMA concert, Oprah, Idol & the MTV Awards all count as promo

Yeah, we know that Katy will sell more than Xtina, and we know that what matters most is total sales.

I was just pointing out that in retrospect, Xtina's 110K debut week with flop singles doesn't look quite as bad.

But Xtina did Idol, Oprah & GMA... 3 of the biggest watched shows on TV.

She did the MTV Awards and heavily promoted the album with her radio show.

She even went as far as to announce a tour.

Xtina promoted but people werent checking.

She stayed in the news for the Gaga comparisons and we all know regardless of what kind of press it is, NO press is bad press.

She had promo.

Xtina did pretty much EVERYTHING Britney did in the states for Circus but with a completely different outcome.

Britney did 500K, snatched a #1, sold out a world tour and only did one TV performance for the US.
