I loved BR straight away.

I thought BR was too long for radio, the rah-rah part of the chorus would be too off-putting to many, it wasn't a cute party anthem or a cute girly song, her vocals sounded too raw/harsh. Basically I thought she had her first megaflop on her hands. I was shocked when it hit #1 on iTunes and stayed there for 4 weeks.
I've said that before, but you know...

I'm surprised a lot of people agree with me about Eh, Eh. It annoys me & I find it overrated.
If this new album is as amazing as we're hearing, then I think all of her old & new fans alike will rush to buy the album. The first week sales will be ginormous & so long as she gets hit after hit again the album will have longetivity. With just three hits, TFM went platinum. I think if she finds similar or better success, her album will easily go double platinum.

I knew Bad Romance would smash the moment I heard it.

Plus, most of TFM's sales counted toward TF...

And when I first heard JD, I never knew it would become a no.1 smash for 3 weeks, so I'm happy for that. I just think that she should have had a no.1 album, and if TFM deluxe sales counted for TFM instead of TF. then she definitely would have had a no.1. And for BR, I blame ESOM for that. I think the last week ESOM was no.1, Gaga was like 2 points behind. Then TT came, which I never would have thought would have smashed like that. In the UK, she is loved, so I'm not very surprised there

Her lack of number ones is disappointing in a way because, IMO chart positions are more important than sales. Chart positions remain constant, but sales are always changing. What is classified as a strong selling album now is minuscule compared to a decade ago. Similarly, 2-3 years ago it used to be regarded as an achievement for a single to reach double platinum sales, but that's to be expected of even a modest hit nowadays. Also, the general public have no idea how many copies albums sell, but the understanding of chart positions is universal.

Exactly. From November - June, she sold roughly 2 or 3 million albums in the US. With just three big singles in that timespan. She's an amazing album seller.

The vast majority of people doubted that it would be a hit when it premiered. I thought it would be but I guess the negativity did plant some seeds of doubt in my mind. I remember people said the same about her other songs too though, with every GaGa single we have been told that it was going to flop but she has not had one flop yet. Except for LoveGame in the UK, #19.

I think you are the only one to agree with me that Chart positions>>>>sales. In most cases, that is. Songs like Rude Boy should not have hit no.1 in the US with 2m sales while songs like Bad Romance are past 4m and never reach there. And sometimes in the UK, I just can't @ Em and Rihanna selling so many copies, but are stalled at no.2 because of overrated artists overtaking them. Her lack of no.1's in the US don't surprise me, because imo Gaga has more of a European sound, which usually doesn't top charts here

I will never be able to eat sushi and not think of this.
Good thing I don't like sushi!

That's what I like about it...I wouldn't like it if it was a "cute girly song"

I agree, but when people look back on the charts in years to come, on the surface of it Rude Boy appears to have been a much bigger hit than Bad Romance was. Obviously we know that's not true, but I guess every method of measuring success has its flaws. LTWYL could end up becoming the best-selling song of the year in the UK despite not having reached #1, that really is just bad luck. I agree that GaGa's sound is very European, but she has managed to have success with it commercially in the US and there's not many who have done that.
