Universal’s Geffen label is looking to score its second UK number one single within the space of three weeks after the Saturdays opened up a narrow lead on midweek sales.
Singles
The girl group’s Fascination/Geffen-issued single Missing You is around 4,000 sales ahead of Flo Rida featuring David Guetta’s Club Can’t Handle Me at this early point in the week, according to OCC Data. The Saturdays’ current highest chart performance is number two, achieved in 2009 by both Just Can't Get Enough and Forever Is Over.
Geffen, which was revived under Colin Barlow in 2008, hit number one a fortnight ago with boy band The Wanted’s debut single All Time Low. This was replaced at number one after a week last Sunday by Ne-Yo's Beautiful Monster. The Ne-Yo hit is ranked fourth at this stage of the week, behind the Atlantic-issued Club Can’t Handle Me and Interscope/Polydor’s Love The Way You Lie by Eminem featuring Rihanna.
Missing You is joined among the Top 10 sellers by one other brand new release, 4th & Broadway/Island’s Tinchy Stryder whose In My System is ranked sixth. Island is also targeting another Top 20 entry this Sunday with Devlin’s newly-issued Brainwashed presently the week’s 20th top seller.
Albums
On the albums chart Sonovox/Mercury’s Arcade Fire, who debuted at one last Sunday with The Suburbs, are little more than 200 sales ahead in their bid to spend a second week at the top. Chasing them is Eminem whose Interscope/Polydor album Recovery is now aiming to reclaim the number one position for a second time. In a pretty static Top 10 679/Atlantic’s Plan B and Parlophone’s Eliza Doolittle are at this stage in third and fourth positions, the same places they attained on last Sunday’s chart.
There are no new entries showing up in the Top 20 with the highest arrival, Tempa-signed Skream, in 27th place with Outside The Box. Expected to join them among the new entries is a re-issue of Interscope/Polydor act Queens Of The Stone Age’s 2000 album Rated R. This originally reached 54 in the UK but midweek sales suggest it could finally make a Top 40 breakthrough

Wow, I didn't expect them to be number 1. It's going to be a tight race for the top spot this week, I hope they can get their first number one. The song isn't their best, but it's way better than Flo Rida!
