I believe that every stereotype has some truth to it. They shouldn't be generalized for everyone, but they DO hold some ground.
Not every man who listens to pop music is gay, but many of them are, certainly more than males who listen to rock music
etc etc etc
So I think it would be stupid to disregard all stereotypes and dub them as completely untruthful.

Stereotypes are generalizations, or assumptions, that people make about the characteristics of all members of a group, based on an image (often wrong) about what people in that group are like.
If a certain statement isn't directed at all members of a group, then it's not really a stereotype.

Gays having aids, or being the main cause.
Black people being uneducated, loud, living in the projects and on welfare
White people living in the trailer park, smelling like baloney
Gays not being able to play sports
Islams being terrorists

There has always been this belief that all white people have lice.
I did read that lice are most commonly found in white people's hair. (this wouldn't be considered a stereotype, more like a statistic).

Well, true.
When I learn of a new stereotype, I usually keep in mind that not everyone in the target group will fall under this stereotype, but many will, so it helps me to be somehow prepared when facing a new situation. So, this means that I'm not stereotyping in a negative sense of the word, right?

I don't think it would be stereotypical. Most, if not, all stereotypes are common misconceptions or are based on myths. Now, if statistics are involved, then that would be a different story. But I don't think anyone can really collect data on how many Middle Eastern natives are terrorists.

Moving out the ghetto/slums/projects, and wanting to make something out of yourself makes you a sell out
Men that can dress are gay (although this is somewhat true and I don't see a problem with it)

And sadly, this stereotype usually come from people who want to live in that environment for the rest of their lives. IDK why some people don't want to see others move up in the world.
