Formation cannot be streamed and was uploaded way (!) after its buzz, which leads to one solution only: These two songs are not comparable when it comes to "which is song is generally bigger".

Commercially, Chantaje definitely wins (for obvious reasons).

The fact that members here are implying Shakira's smash hits aren't hits because they dont smash in English speaking countries ( where sales come from ) is lowkey xenophobic.

Millions and millions of people are streaming Chantaje and hearing it on the radio. It is a hit because people know and replay the song.

Not to mention it is nowhere near close to being over, it is still climbing in a lot of markets. When it is all said and done it will probably outsell Formation in pure sales as well while being a song in Spanish.

hey here is a map of all the territories where Spanish is spoken. As you can see, more than 20 countries in total.



The song is doing well in many countries where Spanish is not spoken too and is even charting in the US. Maybe it'll chart for more than 6 weeks.

By the way, Chantaje managed to get up to #27 so far on the Itunes worldwide chart despite not having much support from the USA (the biggest market) Beyonce had the advantage since 1)Its in English 2) she is from the biggest market and is very successful there.

Beyoncé doesn't do YouTube/Spotify releases on time as preventative damage control. Imagine if She did. It would completely undermine her marketing team's attempt to make her out to be the "mv visionary. " If the YouTube global views didn't add up, then that would be devastating to the brand. That's why they keep Beyonce in her "Safe place" with these supposed Tidal exclusivities.
