Not this comment on Quora about Lemonade making me cry a bit.
"This album was a life changer for me. People have no idea how it feels for someone like me to see herself in pop culture in a fabulous, powerful, substantial way. The amount of cognitive dissonance I have to practice to listen to Hip Hop and R&B is disgusting because I know those images do no reflect who I am but it is what many people look to for a clue about women with skin like mine.
This project was meaningful. I related to all the messages, not just the ones about infidelity. So well done. So honest. It just means so much that someone out there, a Black woman like me not only represented me in pop culture when we are the underdogs of America, but literally dominated. With no apologies.
I'm finally getting to a place where I am ok with me and don't care who sees it. Its startling to see my favorite artist going through that same awakening. I feel lucky to be alive in this time."
