I prefer when he writes his own music but if for whatever reason he decided to use a writing camp then I don't care as long as the music is good and authentic. At least he can sing and play live and pull it all off like it was his own.
Sis there are countless stories from writers of Beyonce's songs saying they wrote the song, the song got to her and she changed/catered them to her. Writers at her camps said she would come in after they had been writing and start changing/catering what they came up with.
That is different from Ed writing with people from scratch. He didn't have people start writing a song for him, come and then change it up to fit him better. He's a strong force as a writer, he writes for other artists as well.
Like many modern music stars, Beyoncé's usually one of several co-writers on most of her songs (note: Anyone who sits in on writing sessions is listed in the credits, according to the Guardian). Singer-songwriter Sia Furler, who's written music for several artists, including Bey, told Rolling Stone in 2015 writing for the R&B megastar is "writing camp, essentially. She flies us all in and puts us all up. We all live in a house together—like five producers and five topline writers."
Furler said Bey's contributions are a bit unorthodox compared to other singers who brainstorm with all the writers in one meeting. "[Beyoncé] visits each room and will contribute and let us know what she's feeling and what she's not feeling," she told Rolling Stone. "Lyrically, melodically, anything. She's very Frankenstein when she comes to songs. She'll say, 'I like the verse from that. I like the pre-chorus from that. Can you try mixing it with that?'"
A plethora of songwriters and producers have contributed to some of Bey's most iconic hits that made her metamorphosis from Beyoncé Knowles, former lead singer of Destiny's Child, to Queen Bey.
And again, that's great and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But what Ed is describing is different. He's like a "Sia"....with these other writers collaborating from scratch. Not having them in rooms to start writing and then stopping by to see what they've come up with and start picking what he likes.
When I was six years old I broke my leg
I was running from my brother and his friends
And tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain grass I rolled down
I was younger then, take me back to when I
Found my heart and broke it here
Made friends and lost them through the years
And I've not seen the roaring fields in so long, I know I've grown
But I can't wait to go home
I'm on my way
Driving at 90 down those country lanes
Singing to "Tiny Dancer"
And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real
We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
Fifteen years old and smoking hand-rolled cigarettes
Running from the law through the backfields and getting drunk with my friends
Had my first kiss on a Friday night, I don't reckon that I did it right
But I was younger then, take me back to when
We found weekend jobs, when we got paid
We'd buy cheap spirits and drink them straight
Me and my friends have not thrown up in so long, oh how we've grown
But I can't wait to go home
I'm on my way
Driving at 90 down those country lanes
Singing to "Tiny Dancer"
And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real
We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill
One friend left to sell clothes
One works down by the coast
One had two kids but lives alone
One's brother overdosed
One's already on his second wife
One's just barely getting by
But these people raised me
And I can't wait to go home
And I'm on my way, I still remember
Those old country lanes
When we did not know the answers
And I miss the way you make me feel, it's real
We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill
Read the lyrics above and then dare to tell me your faves forty-person writing camps even come close to this.
The nerve. Your fave can't write. She can barely sing. Spotify is cheap. Please get better taste.
Not that there's a problem with it ever, but there are differences with all of them.
Rih has one assembled for her to create songs for her.
Bey has one too assembled for her, and then she will come in and check up on them, see what they've come up with and start catering it to what she wants.
Ed actually had people over to his house to write with from the beginning. No team was assembled for him without him being a part of it....he just had a group of people to collaborate with. He's a writer through and through, he's been since the beginning of his career. Tons of professional writers go on writing retreats.
You stay hatin from afar.
Listen... this is literally the same exact thing Beyoncé has done esp with ST.
concerning 1): That's EXACTLY what Bey did. She invited all the writers to the Hamptons and collaborate on different songs with each other.
That's literally NOT what she's describing.
The writers/producers either brought songs, melodies, lyrics (whatever it might be) that they had worked on before the writing camp and/or they started working on more new stuff right there on the spot. Beyoncé checked in with them, told them what she liked, what she didn't like, what she wanted to keep, what to ditch and THEN she started working on the stuff she liked the most and turned it into what she wanted it to be. But from what we can tell none (or at least most) of those collaborations didn't start from scratch.

In the directors screening, she actually states how Yonce came about and it was Justin Timberlake beating on buckets and The Dream basically freestyling "Yonce all on his mouth like liquor". That's from scratch if you ask me.
Don't get me wrong, I am aware Bey is not actually writing her songs anymore like she did back during DC days, but I think some of you are totally underestimating her input on the development of her songs. She's very heavily involved.

I'm not hating at all. I like Beyonce sis. I'm just pointing out the difference. Ed is a stronger writer just like Beyonce is a stronger singer and performer.
Nothing wrong with being honest. Songwriting is a talent and it is not as easy as some think. That is why you rarely if ever see people writing solo. Taylor Swift is the only current artist who writes most if not all of her stuff as well as writing songs for others.
